Well I was never asked, and chances are many who were asked have never been in Ca much less lived there. They watch to much TV, or read to many crap magazines.
I have traveled to CA more than I care to remember. The folks I know love the weather and little else.
Me I like open spaces and elbow room. I like have a low cost of living and I don't like crime.
I like to live as free as possible and pay as little in taxes as I can. That leaves Ca out of the running.
Thats not to say that CA doesn't have some charm because it does. It is a sanctuary state and is home to some pretty big gangs lots of crime and lets not forget people like Pelosi.
Nope I'll stick with low taxes, and lots of room around me. Affordable housing and neighbors who care.
Notably, Texas fell from 4th to 8th place. I'm often lectured by conservatives on this forum that California should be more like Texas. If Texas is so great, why is it #8 on the list?
Texas is less desirable than California by some because we don't have the mountains & beaches in close proximity to each other.
Other than us having second rate beaches & less popular city attractions, Texas' economy & QOL kills California's.

Weird, because I live in CA and have plenty of elbow room, live on the edge of a huge cattle ranch, have a decent cost of living (not too high, not too low) and zero crime. My neighbors are wonderful and the biggest gang in my area is a bunch of high school kids who think they're 'tough'.
Did you ever leave LA when you 'visited' California? If you think there is no open land and it's too expensive...well, you're looking in the wrong places. There are plenty of places that are wide open, but of course then you would be complaining about the lack of services and the long drive into town.
I just took a quick look at the local real estate and found a house out in the country, 3/2 on 5 acres for under 250k. Not too shabby.
Get rid of the illegal aliens and anti-American/anti-military leftist and I'd consider visiting California. Until then, it's on my list of places to avoid which includes Mexico, France, and all muslim nations.
I am trying really hard not to hate you.
France is very nice, but hey if progressive minded people scare you so much than stay in your state that was recently ranked worst quality of life in the union.
Some of the Islam countries are interesting culturally too. But hey ignorance is bliss right?

I don't think CA has been the state people want to live

It depends on what you value. I would much rather live in California for the attitudes, politics, and culture versus Texas. Different strokes for different folks. But the polls don't lie: More people would choose to live in California rather than Texas.

Well I value having a job at this point in my life, I dunno about you.
The weather makes California attractive to me but the people and the cost of living turn me off.
California is an awesome place with good people. But the system there is all screwed up. As much as I like it, i'd never live there again.
