So you think an underwear bomb that fizzled was the choice because he was making a fashion statement?

Sure there are. But apparently, the reliable ones are not so easy anymore.

Casinos? What about events that occur all over the country, every day of the week?
Do you honestly believe there is nothing being done to protect those venues?

I don't live in fear. I am sorry that you do. (I hear that Prozac is helpful in such cases.) I do not welcome the scanners because I am afraid.
I also do not buckle my seat belt because I am afraid, or wear a helmet while I ski because I am afraid, or avoid open flames while carrying gasoline because I am afraid.
But a point that several people miss is that the evolving security procedures... even those that appear to be defending against the last attack rather than the next one... have already saved lives. The underwear bomber (for example) did not fail just because his bomb didn't work, he failed because security procedures have forced terrorists to resort to tactics more likely to not work... like underwear bombs.
We have dodged a bullet or two, and will not be able to dodge all of them. But let's not forget that it's easier to dodge a zip gun than a rifle. The TSA procedures cannot make us perfectly safe. But they can make us more safe.
Are you sure a zip gun would fit in the baggage compartment?
If the terrorists would bomb a mall, a concert, Disneyworld, Wall Street, the IRS, a Super Bowl. That would drive the TSA nazis crazy and paralyze the very capitalistic foundations of this country and serve to subjugate the people even more than now. The gov't would create a totally new bureaucracy of henchmen to "protect" us everywhere we go and tax the very air that we breathe to pay for it.
You are correct. Of course, HistorianDude would be more than happy to comply for "our own good". After all, he is not stupid, you know.
It is only a matter of time before something happens. The government is testing us now. If we allow them to usurp our rights without a fight NOW, it is only going to be worse in the future. To the point where we WILL have to carry our "papers" with us at all times, and we will NOT be "allowed" to refuse unreasonable search and seizure in our own homes.
However, unlike you, I prefer that "matter of time" to be as long as possible with as few "somethings" as possible in total.
You just don't get it......'the matter of time' will happen sooner when people accept whatever 'safety' procedures that government decides to implement.

OK I'll try explaining it to you as if I were to a second grader.
The more that we allow the government to control what we have to endure or go through in the name of safety without question, the faster they get to gain total control of EVERYTHING & we are no longer a free society.
Now I get it, you are one of those people who disagrees & will call this a tinfoil hat conspiracy thing, so you will allow the guberment to tell you just what they need to do to keep you safe & you will drink that kool-aid & be fine with it.
Thankfully there are some of us who question things like this for ALL of us.
I know you have heard the very accurate quote from Ben Franklin "Those who give up essential Liberty for a little temporary Safety, deserve neither".
Once we swallow the TSA infringements, they will come up with something else to keep us safe & then something else & something else, before ya know it, we will be a prisoner of "safety".
This has happened before in Germany.

What freedoms? this topic is about TSA procedures, don't change the topic. I will rebel against something else, but a freaking patdown. nah.
And next at the train station, the bus terminal, the entrance to every public building?
