No it's not, in my opinion and experience nothing is really cheaper if the government gets involved.
The most expensive health care on the planet is US health care. It is twice as expensive as the average first world health care. Most of which are government run. That is a fact. It is even more expensive than the fully private UHC systems of Switzerland and Germany.
It also gets worse results than the average. While that is a more complex subject, it is also clear that it covers fewer people, and gives rise to such things as medical bankrupcy, while also burdening businesses with a massive expense their competitors do not have.
I want healthcare provided at cost to anyone that needs it. Making money off misery is about as immoral as a person can get. Private sector Health Insurance is the biggest and most corrupt casino imaginable.
The most effective way to provide care while controlling costs is to eliminate private investment and profits. Pay Doctors well after providing free education. The same with the rest of the staff. Don't pay the loan sharks a dime.
The most common expression from the Right is: "I don't want my tax money paying for sombody else's health care." The next most common is: "I want ti used to make a contractor rich by killing people in some foreign land."
Effectivly it means "my health is important and your death is irrelevant."
Just look at Norway! They pay higher taxes but make OUTSTANDING amounts of money there, and much more financial and personal freedom. Most Americans really don't understand how they make more money in the this way.

Preventive health care is much cheaper than reactive health care. It's a lot cheaper to pay for insulin shots than ER visits and long term hospitalizations. A fiscal conservative would realize this, this is why conservatives in most other countries support affordable health care.
You don't realize that doctors USUALLY MAKE MORE money as general care practitioners with socialized medicine. This is why the anti-socialism stance is so weak. In other first world nations, all higher education is tax paid too!

Everyone does have the freedom to pay for private insurance for themselves. Nothing is free.
Everyone has the freedom to purchase health insurance, however, not everyone has the freedom to pay for it for many different reasons. One hell of a huge gigantic difference.

I don't want Obama spending my tax dollars killing innocent Libyans any more than I want it spend on universal healthcare.
