I wonder if anybody saw the post the other day that mentioned the flood of the Missouri River that affected only about 6 states down to where it flows into the Mississippi but all of those states below that confluence. I haven't seen one damned thing about that flood on TV in weeks although the water is still flooding and affecting all kinds of lives.
How many have seen the pictures of Joplin taken after the tornado? I am wondering if "first come, first served" might not be a good way to go. That would put all the Missouri victims at the top of the list.
I feel just as sorry for all the victims of Irene as anybody else but I just don't like the fact that that one was hyped so long and finally became the only thing you could see on any newscast anywhere. Oh yeah, DC, Philadelphie, NYC, Boston were all in the path but hell they had a lot more warning about it than Joplin did. Joplin had maybe 15 minutes and those people had days and days. Of course, none of them could do a damned thing about being in the path of a hurricane like that one and all the flooding it caused.
How about the farmers and cities that got floated away by the Missouri River flood? Do they deserve any aid from FEMA? Maybe the man is right that we should disband FEMA and just hand out federal money to all victims of natural disasters. There isn't enough in the till to help them all but we must do what we can do.
Roy, the Mississippi is still high south of the confluence, but its nowhere near flood stage, the Missouri is also still high, but not at flood stage either.
I was in MO last week, and went from below STL over to KC, and down to Joplin, then back again.
Joplin is still heartbreaking.

disband FEMA and take that money to help those affected by disasters. let the people who are now unemployed because of this government's actions help rebuild, and pay them to do so.
Federal Emergency Management Agency spokesman Bob Josephson said Monday the agency focuses on immediate needs when its Disaster Relief Fund runs low.
He says individual aid to victims of the tornado that killed 160 people and damaged about 7,500 homes in Joplin will continue for things such as temporary housing. But help with long-term rebuilding projects is on hold.
Emergency and shelter are still being met in Joplin. Some funds for long-term rebuilding have been put on hold.
Why are we rebuilding Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Lybia when we need to take care of our own? The simple fact that we "don't have the money" shows our weakness as a country and a society. Well we do have the money but both parties refuse to tax the people that have stolen it for their own uses.

No warnings were issued for landlocked Vermont. It was supposed to be just another summer storm, maybe with heavy winds. The mountains have always protected the state. No one was prepared for what happened. When Irene ran out of steam, the storm the size of California dumped up to 11" of rain in a short time in VT. The ground was already soaked from heavy rains during the summer.
Too bad people didn't go out and stock up and food, water and supplies when they had the chance. Roads are gone, entire towns are cut off, and the National Guard is now airlifting supplies into the towns that are unreachable. Not only that, grassroots groups have started up to run supplies in using ATVs. No one is crying boohoo, but it's hardly a matter of getting "elevators in NYC" working again.

I was thinking the same and more along the line of Africa and Haiti.
There has been so many major disasters in the last 20 years.I know me personally I was helping with the '93 Flood on the Missouri River.Tornadoes wiping out towns in '03 in Missouri,we was right in line with them lost three neighbors.Then the Ice Storm of '07,didn't have Electric for 2 weeks.
This is just a few that has effected me personally.Not counting U.S. wide then World Wide.I figure there is changes going on that there is nothing we can do about.There is a Shortage of Money and I'm sure there will be building supplies.
Maybe just a way of God culling or maybe Satan having his fun.
