They've had Gaza for the past six years to test out self rule. We can make a determination of how well it might work from that. The West Bank has Fatah, a watered down version of the PLO, which is also mostly under self rule. Even if they got their own state tomorrow, they don't have a strong enough leadership to work with the Israelis and make compromises on both sides for a peaceful non-aggresive lifestyle. The Palestinian people want it, but their leaders are spending too much time posturing. Thus your question is not a simple with or against situation.
The Palestinians have been far too brainwashed by their leaders to want compromise. They are the modern day version of the KKK south. I can't really sympathize with them. If they get a state then let get and it stop whining. The Islamic world is a cesspool. One more lousy rotten Islamic state really makes very little difference at all in the grand scheme of things.
Sure. Then once they're a state, we can kill them good and proper the next time they lob deadly rockets at Jewish citizens of Israel. They can no longer claim to be pathetic refugees.

The feeling is mutual, between them and the Israelis, and the supporters on both sides. Nobody wants to be oppressed, much less on religious grounds. When people are oppressed, they will be a nuisance just as the oppressors can be.

Not as much as you think. They fear Hamas. They are afraid to talk out against them. There is no freedom of speech. If you look hard enough you will find videos of Hamas firing squads killing people who take the chance to talk against them them. Fatah is not feared, but it is loathed due to all the corruption that floated up after Arafat died.
Hamas is Palestine's version of the Taliban. Both, the Taliban and Hamas, came about as a result of political intervention by foreign nations. Such atrocious groups thrive in chaos and Palestinian situation offers plenty of fodder to that effect. The Palestinians in general are stuck between oppressive fundamentalists in Hamas and an oppressive Israeli government. It doesn't surprise me that many Palestinians will seek refuge with someone who has more in common with them (or at least preaches favorably) and that will be Hamas. A free Palestine is the only logical solution but it will still take a long time before the region stabilizes.
The Israeli government is not Hamas. Israel, while deeply flawed, is not an organization of psychotic religious fanatics bent on driving all people who don't share their religion out of the region.
Are you with or against the Palestinians to declare their own state?
Palestine has had a declared territory for over fifty years, with which they've only managed to kill people. What will they do with a declared state?
Let them establish some civility and become productive members of the international community. With no evidence of reliability, I'm against them until then....
