Who should? And is there a timeline to which we should go back to see who lived on those lands to be eligible to stay, and the rest sent back "home"?

If it means they will stop strapping bombs to the women and children sure. But I think that crap will still be happening no matter what. They want death to all jews, obviously that is and will always be their creed.

On its own, I'm fine with it. When you introduce the element of Hamas refusing to acknowledge Israel, it starts to get much more complicated and dangerous and hard to support.

I doubt Hamas would have existed if not for Israel itself. Or as the right wing Israelis suggested in 2005...

But, we must keep poking our nose.

Perhaps, but in today's world Israel exists and is a recognized nation. Hamas doesn't recognize them and does not think they should exist. Given that, the recognition of a Palestinian state would not resolve the issue as long as Israel exists. It would most likely give Hamas a boost and make them more likely to continue attacking Israel. They wouldn't be satisfied until Israel was taken over. As long as that's the case, I don't blame Israel for not wanting to sit down and negotiate with peole committed to their destruction. Hamas wants no compromise and this is only a next step toward their ultimate goal, so why should Israel go along with it?

And tomorrow Palestine can be. What is the problem?

Hamas exists because of Israel, if not international influence on regional politics. And we keep pushing for it.

The fact that it will be legitimized as a nation with the goal of wiping out their neighbor.

Let's deal in the world as it exists today. Israel exists. Are you suggesting that we stop recognizing them as though that would bring peace to region? That's what Hamas wants. Would you support recognizing the Palestinian state in exchange for their recognizing Israel?

That won't be any different from what Israel has been doing, albeit dragging the USA with it.

Hamas needs Israel, just as Al Qaeda needs chaos to prevail.

Its the other way around:
Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood (which exists in most middle eastern countries). PLO is an organization that exists only to fight Israel. (I know that in the 80s Israel endorsed Hamas as an alternative to Fatah, but Hamas would have existed anyway).

As for the voting I am neutral: it's another empty declaration that (like many others) will remain only a declaration. A Palestinian state will not be born out of that.
