Or instead, since alcohol is legal, make the evil poor give free alcohol to heterosexual teenage boy scouts, and make sure to also give everyone a healthy dose of contemporary western religion as well so that their otherwise illegitimate babies grow up to be good bourgeois members of this brave new world which our predecessors have put off on us.
I say us as we and i am not, i am being proverbial ... My point is, who is the hypocrite?

Yes they will. You can grow tobacco right next to your tomato plant, at least where I am from, but not many people do that.
yup, you can definitely grow tobacco. you should try to sell some of that unaltered organic tobacco at your local farmers market to see how you get on. you'll have a quick introduction to 'free markets, american style!'
Yeah but tobacco in its raw state is terrible, it has to be processed with loads of chemicals unattainable to the average person. Regulating anything that has no real production process is fairly difficult because then the only means to regulate it is by population control which becomes a costly quixotic endeavor(sorry, too much verbal diarreah at the end).

Everyone who wants to use pot now can do so. Legalization it isn't going to turn us into a nation of idiots. We do a good job of that while being clean and sober.
The fact that there are so many meth tweakers and pot heads might be one reason our economy is doing a nose dive. People become a lot more complacent when fed their drugs, they become much easier for a government to control and destroy.
Why else are people so content to sit by and watch Obama expand NAFTA and bring in more foreigners to work here while millions of Americans go on unemployed.
A little more pot, meth, heroin, cocaine, pcp and everyone will feel much happier.
