All good states...

I think you know what it would be like to try and use any one of those individual states as a model for the United States.

Ehm - no immigration laws? As someone who has been through the INS/USCIS mill, I can say with some authority that there are more immigration laws than you can shake a stick at. (Including, I'm sure, a rule against stick-shaking, so don't try it.)

Only if you're an illegal immigrant, then the process is a snap and the benefits too.

The ones abiding by the laws of this country have to jump through hoops to get in.

Only if you chose to come here legally though. There are over 30 million illegals that can tell you it's not at all hard to come here, use the hospitals, protest for amnesty, drive without licenses and insurance. Very very few risk deportation, it requires they commit some pretty bad crime like murder.

We might have some immigration laws but as they are not enforced, it's as though there are none.

The best country for the poor would probably be Canada but since it was not on the list I choose the USA.

Once you get there don't be alarmed at the high suicide rate.

The other nation states are, again, not comparable at all to the U.S. but you might want to try to compare them to certain states in the United States.
Most Scandinavians can live without the 1% controlling the wealth. Of course you are bound to find Norwegians wanting to move out like in every country in the world. These vague descriptions you present probably doesn't represent the average Norwegian.

There are far more Americans moving to Norway than Norwegians moving to the US. And these are usually well educated.

The suicide rate is on par with the US. You might want to do some actual research. Seriously, you have internet.

Right... I've studied your emigration, immigration and migration rates. I just don't care to get into the nauseating details, because, quite frankly it means very little.

Talk about vague generalizations. Go run to whackapedia now...

Quote:
Suicide Rates (per 100,000), by country, year, and gender.

norway 99 19.5 6.8
switzerland 99 26.5 10.0
sweden 99 19.7 8.0
united states of america 99 17.6 4.1
WHO: Suicide rates (http://www.who.int/mental_health/prevention/suicide/suiciderates/en/ - broken link)

I guess... If math wasn't your thing in school. Here, let me explain.

Norway - 26.8 per 100,000
Switzerland - 36.5 per 100,000
Sweden - 27.7 per 100,000
The U.S. - 22.7 per 100,000

Now, percentage wise...

Norway's suicide rate is 18% higher than the U.S.
Switzerland's suicide rate is 60% higher than the U.S.
Sweden's 22% higher than the U.S.

Feel free to check my math...

Your study. Share? Details seemed important enough below:

You're using old data. Now if you check that Wikipedia article you can actually quite easily find the sources. (WHO as well... sigh.)

Not "whackapedia":
Current Worldwide Suicide Rate

The source is still WHO in case you wondered.

So my math or your math won't matter if we use different numbers to begin with.

Either way, I fail to see it to be significantly higher than other countries. What about Japan, Finland, France or China?

Your argument doesn't hold water.

I don't really know why you bother as the topic is being poor in a specific country, not rich. You see riots in the streets of Oslo on the news?
