If the 'poor' of Norway, Demark, Sweden, New Zealand, Canada don't own a house, a vehicle, get HUD subsidies, food stamps, have multiple HDTV, xbox, cell phones, internet connection, computers, free school food, head start at school, earned income credit on April 15th, medicaid, I'd choose the bennies of being poor in the U.S.
Canada and New Zealand are much different that the Scandinavian countries- apples and oranges in your list.
None of them have a clobbered together patchwork of social services like ours, as far as that goes but I would like to see something factual about our poor owning those toys you mentioned. This post is mostly smoke and mirrors and lots of lumpage.
If I was born poor in Norway or Sweden, I would not need most of the things you mentioned. Neither would you.
Has everyone forgotten the economic crisis that is hitting Europe worse than it is the US? Just look at Greece, Italy, and the rioters in England just a few months ago. Their society is collapsing precisely because of their un-affordable welfare state and social model.
Any country around the globe. The only criteria is that you would be included as one of that country's poorest.
Odd mix of options there... None of those countries is good for poor people. Is there any special reason why, except for the US, you basically picked only Muslim or [formerly/supposedly] socialist countries? ^^
It would have to be a country where either I could live a dignified life even as a poor person, or where I could work myself out of poverty without being hindered by countless obstacles.

Well most of us did not fall for the ploy of the OP. We picked countries like Norway, Sweden etc.

Yes, I have seen that
I guess people get the wrong impression, though. It is not that poor people have easy lives in Scandinavia or Central Europe. I sometimes get the feeling that many Americans think of Europe as a kind of paradise where they give you money for free if you don't have it yourself
America's "poor" are rich by some country's standards, that's for sure.
If you have to compare america with poor nations is a comment on america.
Like the failing student who gets a 60% test score compares himself to another who gets a 40% test score to feel good about himself.
Do you always look down to see how high up your are, or look up to see what must be done?

Absolutely right...just as they believe that everyone in the U.S. is poor because it is a choice. It is just in Europe employees have more of a living wage. Here in the U.S. we have the working poor.

Norway has the second highest per capita income on the planet, and is not suffering from society collapsing. Greece, Italy, Spain, etc. are not modeled like Norway, Sweden, or Germany.
