We have the most lenient immigration laws of any developed country in the world. Not to mention our geographical relationship to Mexico. Do you think that may have something to do with it?

Besides, poverty is not just a material issue. I don't think I would be satisfied with my life if I were poor, but had a cell phone and enough food thanks to food stamps. Once poverty occupies the intellect and character, it is a much bigger problem as it prevents you from looking at the bigger picture of life, purpose, meaning, perspectives, art, etc.
I meant to say the "poor" here in the USA have it easier than the middle class in the USA.

They live a worry free life, they never have to worry about work, responsibility, bills, taxes. They are given all the material comforts, many of the luxuries like free internet, free computers, free cable television, and of course the free cell phones and usually do their shopping at the mall while working people are buying used clothes at the Goodwill or garage sales.

Well if they have it so good, why don't you choose to be poor?

Millions of immigrants as such are no problem, there is more than enough space in the US.
And those who emigrate for instance from Mexico to the US are usually people who do not want to be/stay poor, but work and get decently paid instead. Even illegal immigrants are only a problem because they may not work legally.

UK, but I wish you'd included one of the other EU nations on that list (Sweden or Germany would be my picks).

Sanrene - back up to your old tricks again, right? Let's ask a simple question, but manipulate the responses in such a way that it proves that the American poor shouldn't whine about their lot - it could be a lot worse! I mean, Christ, who would pick China over the US?

It's funny how the conservatives always like to compare the US to poor countries when making comparisons like this. They're very good at setting up straw-man arguments that really make no sense when you think about them. Why not compare the US to Germany? Japan? France? The UK? Canada? Etc. You know, countries that are actually AS DEVELOPED as the US.

But then you wouldn't be able to make whatever manipulated point you're trying to make. You're very transparent, Sanrene. Nice job distracting by throwing the UK in there, though. You need some new tricks. I voted for North Korea just to throw you off.

Yes, brutally wrong. If you were born in Norway you'd be better off than the middle class in the USA.

Really? The poor people who come to my church and are helped by our churches outreach have it extremely difficult. I don't know of any who get free internet, computers, television, mobile phones and go shopping at the mall.
