What does my opinion about the value of visiting parts of the US have to do with ignorance or US history? Kansas is boring. It's flat and there is nothing to see except the Westboro Baptist Church.
Thank you for proving my point. If you are entirely uninterested in learning the colorful, relevant, and fascinating history of Kansas - I am certianly not going to waste my time "boring you" with the details. You can pick up a book or even check out wikipedia for that information.
I live in California and have never been east of the Wasatch Mountains - but Kansas history is rather amazing - I feel I have traveled in the state just by reading books.
I suppose living in a bubble doesn't allow you to learn more about the state then the Westboro Baptist Church. A pity.
The point is, it's ok for a GOP President's kids to have Secret Service Protection, but not a Dem.
Just as it's ok for e GOP President to go golfing , not a Dem, and vice versa.
I never heard about President Bush's daughters going on a school trip. If they did - then President Bush should have paid for the security also - just as Obama should pay for Malias security. If the president refuses to do so - then the kids should not go on the trip. Secret Service protection(taxpayer funded) should only be used for neccesary functions of the federal government. Everything else should be on the public servants own dime.
Where do you get the ridiculous idea that I would hold someone to a different standard based on their political views?
I have to disagree: Kansas is pretty nice. Yes, it's open, has a lot of small towns, but the metro part of KC (Olathe, etc) is very nice, and the scenery is pretty rolling as you move west. Anyone with an interest in history will enjoy visiting Kansas' many historical sites, too.

Secret Service detail IS NOT A PAID ITEM, it is afforded to the President and his family, WHEREVER THEY ARE. Quit whining.

Most states have nice parts to them. Except Ohio.
What is wrong with Ohio?
We have;
The Rock Hall.
2 NFL teams, 2 MLB teams, 1 NBA team, 1 NHL team, and the Buckeyes.
Cedar Point- The best damn Amusement Park for thrills in the country. Has the record for most roller coasters of any amusement park.
Kings Island- Not Cedar Point, but owned by them, and not bad. More geared toward family than Cedar Point though.
Lake Erie- Can't knock places like Mentor Headlands, or places like Put-In-Bay, and Kelly's Island
3 major metropolitan areas, all with vibrant cores.
The pro football hall of fame.
Amish Country- It's stunning in the Fall.
No mountains, but definitely rolling hills. That stretch on 71 between Columbus and Cincinnati is rather boring though, I'll give you that.
As far as scenery, I love it when the leaves are in full bloom here. It rivals anywhere else in the country.
The Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Not to mention The Cleveland Metroparks.
Oh, and the Cleveland Zoo is ranked as one of the top zoos in the country.
Yeah the weather sucks generally from October to May, but not this year! Personally, aside from Spring where I'd love to go to Kansas to chase tornadoes, I'll take Ohio any day.
