I agree with that, just as long as it is not called self-defense. I heard on NPR that even though Zimmerman is charged with 2nd degree murder, the jury can find him not guilty of that while also finding him guilty of manslaughter.
It's according to how the Jury is charged by the Judge. If the Judge allows manslaughter, then they can consider it. If not, then they can only consider Murder 2, period.
If Zimmerman is not acquitted how many people will respond the pleas for help from others?
This case will define how neighbors help neighbors in their fight against criminals. Can you imagine yourself during a quiet evening at home when you hear the screams of a woman just outside. You have no idea what is happening but you assume the woman is being attacked. On the way out the door you grab your son's baseball bat for something to defend yourself with. You see the attacker attempting to rape a woman who you recognize as one of your neighbors. You confront the assailant who then attacks you and you swing hitting the assailant squarely in the head killing him instantly. You did good and your neighbor is overjoyed by your heroism. The police write the report and press no charges.
A week later you find yourself arrested for murder with the news media bending and slanting the truth. The assailant was black and this brings out Sharpton and Jackson along with the Black Panthers and other black groups. The Frankenstein mob lights their torches and you wonder why did you even get involved. You saved an innocent woman from being raped and possibly murdered and now you find yourself the target. You become the subject of public scorn losing your job and forced to move your family into hiding.
How many would help others knowing that if the assailant dies they could be tried for murder or manslaughter?
Well my .2¢ is that I hope the judge keeps the evidence under seal, at least until a jury is selected and either sequestered (which I think is likely) or sternly ordered by the judge to watch FauxNews with the instructions that the network's only purpose is to provide material for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
Really? And what about all the race baiting information the other networks released nightly for weeks after the shooting which could influence a jury to a guilty verdict?
“The encounter between George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin was ultimately avoidable by Zimmerman, if Zimmerman had remained in his vehicle and awaited the arrival of law enforcement or conversely if he had identified himself to Martin as a concerned citizen and initiated dialog(sic) in an effort to dispel each party’s concern,” lead investigator Chris Serino swore in a March 13 statement. “There is no indication that Trayvon Martin was involved in any criminal activity at the time of the encounter.” His conclusion: probable cause for manslaughter.
It's interesting that the detective's statement doesn't even approach what you attributed to him previously.

My opinion hasn't changed. Again, look at what the Detective said, he said it could have been avoided if Zimmerman did what the dispatcher told him to. He didn't. Now a 17 y/o kid is dead, and he's facing murder charges.
No where in his actual statements does he say that he ignored what dispatch told him. And he is correct, had Zimmerman stayed in his vehicle the incident wouldn't have occured. Same as if Martin had simply walked in his house instead of confronting Zimmerman. However, he is honest enough to recognize that Zimmerman received no such instruction before leaving his vehicle.
Why do you lie about what other people said? It doesn't help your case...especially when you then quote the statement that proves your own statemement wrong.
I don't see the NFL running back ju-jitsu master others claim to be seeing. More like a tall, gangling teenager. No particular cause for suspicion.
Long reach can inflict rapid, sustained and damaging blows. You don't have to be a running back ( he played footballl btw). He seems athletic and substantially taller than the average teenager.
