I agree, but for now, in Tx all we have as an option is Conceal carry. Open Carry would be an improvement. It's always been my contention that a person is less likely to commit a crime if he sees he is surrounded by armed citizens.
Actually, being concealed means you're not quite as fast on the draw. It's not as fast to get out of hiding as it is to simply draw and shoot.
Not sure, I have had three relatives who were murdered. They all were known to carry guns so the shooters never gave them chance. So after the first time you have to pull your gun you are marked and no one will ever give you a chance to pull it again.

I am ok with it, but I wish we as a country could get over our gun addiction.
Some people are into art, some into cars.
Some people like their flower gardens, some people like guns.
You won't get over the gun addiction without getting rid of the other addictions as well. And when that happens, it will be a pretty dull world.
As for black AMERICANS who no longer want to be "black"- You are also welcome to come to Canada. Those that want to stay and shoot it out--go ahead....You had better hurry up- the place is filling up with Mexicans who do not want to be Americans..At least in Canada...we attempt to work things out and get along...Killing the other person is not an option....
The problems you have took 300 years to mature. We up here in the north are young and growing..and our experiment with multiculturalism to my dismay - seems to be working...Our children are trained to except others..the next generation will be very civil...We are the NEW light of the world....Your light is fading - sorry to say.
But they are not trained in grammar or spelling, I see.
Listen, spare me your malarkey. I grew up in an ACTUAL international setting (not America Part II: The Unofficial Protectorate).
Your coming on here to be sarcastic, rude, and stir up sh*t is really quite low brow. And frankly, it's been done before.
I always think it's so cute when people who live in inconsequential places with teeny tiny populations try to compare themselves with an actual player with ten times as many people.
This is a reasonable conversation about something that has been part of American culture since its inception. Here, too, the gangbangers favor us with service killings and I doubt very many other people actually carry weapons because they fear for their lives on a daily basis. I know I don't. But I won't ignore the fact that many crimes have been stopped before they have even started because the criminal had no way of knowing if someone was armed.

I pocket carry a sub compact. It's easily as quick on the draw as an open carry, I'm discreet, and I can put my hand on my gun and be ready to go without anyone know it. I'm not a big fan of open carry. YMMV of course....

Both good points. Not sure what to think on this, but here's another possibility to consider. A person may feel more quickly and seriously threatened if they see you with a gun. Say you have a verbal confrontation and you know that both of you are carrying a firearm. Any movement of the hand that can be quickly mistaken as a reach for your weapon could spur the other into drawing theirs, which would probably result in you drawing yours, and there's really not much to stop it from escalating from there. Being on guard can work both for and against you.
Also, while it'd take a bit more time to draw a weapon that's concealed, you would have the advantage of ultimate surprise, so the two factors might cancel each other out.

When the day comes they fear for their lives, they will all huddle into a corner, sniveling and wishing they had a gun. Because the bad guy's will have them.

I generally support the right to carry, subject, of course, to some limitations (felons, etc).
Interestingly, at least to me, is that the notion held by many that it was perfectly legal in the 'old West' to carry guns about town. Actually, in many towns there was a law that, upon entering town (if you were a Stranger with No Name, for instance) you had to check your weapons in at the sheriff's office.
Indeed, the infamous Gunfight at O.K. Corral came about because the Earp brothers (Wyatt was a US Marshall) and the local sheriff were enforcing Tombstone's ordinance requiring checking weapons at the sheriff's office. The Clantons were refusing to give up their guns. Mayhem resulted.
