The DPMA, a non-partisan association of doctors and patients, surveyed a random selection of 699 doctors nationwide.
Let's play spot the right-wing lies, shall we?
First, DPMA is only non-partisan in their own minds - they're a lobby group with the unenviable task of convincing US voters that the current health insurance system is just GREAT.
Second, there is nothing random about the selection. They faxed 16,000 or so questionnaires out and got about 700 back - in other words, they only got responses from the very small minority who felt strongly enough about the issue to spend time on returning a fax to a lobbying group. (Clearly, DPMA members would look favorably on the poll and be over-represented.)
That's known as a poll with self-selected population, also called a SLOP poll, and they're basically garbage. Certainly wouldn't be called a random selection by any reputable pollster, but then again, that's not who we're dealing with.

Nothing garbage about it. Every politician, and poller knows that for every person that gives an answer they represent a good number of people. Physicians from 45 states responded. With over 16,000 faxes sent out if there were physicians that felt strongly against BOcare there were of course some that felt strongly FOR it, and would have replied in support of it. Common sense dictates that in such a huge, random amount of faxes that if many docs are for BOcare some of them would indeed reply, feeling strongly in favor, but....
Face it, we as a population are not for it in a majority and neither are the healthcare workers, in a majority. Hell, not even Hawaii, the state BO is most liked by has a majority of healthcare workers that appreciate it. It's already harming Medicare and that state has a huge, elder population.
President Romney will delete this debacle from the face of our society, thankfully.

Do you think Romney will delete the debacle of Romneycare? Do you even know what Romney can do about this? Seriously? Zip.

This line right here sums up this poll for me. Well said, Dane.
Either we keep a system that is obviously broke, or we speculate about the effectiveness of the only viable alternative out there.
Yes. Self-selecting polls are worthless. It really is as simple as that.

Appealing to common sense is just another way of saying "I don't have an argument". Polling is not a new science, and bad practice is bad practice. In this case, they simply did a ****-poor job of randomizing their sample. And don't get me started on question design...
I would say yes, and be as correct as the claim you're supporting that 83% of the doctors will quit practicing.
Perhaps instead of getting obsessed over the number, consider the other article I sent you from the Faux News site (Oh wait, that was CNNMoney...my bad). Do you honestly think these doctors will leave the industry because they "want" to?
