Funny guy, hands down. But in my travels, people aren't as stupid as he might believe. I'd say the FOS population far exceeds stupidity in this era.
What some are calling stupid is an observation of provincial myopia applicable to citified folks who too narrowly focus themselves in specialty careers (more pedestrian is the Archie Bunker route), and their counterpart, the country mouse redneck using library books for shooting practice.
Both have more in dysfunctional common than they care to admit.

Hollywood has done something vicious to the dysfunctional human or Hollywood is a natural result of inate human dysfunction. The fact that so many people know what Romney's religion is, is not necessarily a positive for him. There is a lot of prejudice against Mormons.
James Buchanan sent thousands of Federal Troops to Utah in order to eliminate the Mormon problem. The religion has a history of anti mormon sentiments, but since it was founded by a convicted fraud it shouldn't be surprising. Add to that the fact the Mormons slaughtered 120 innocent people.
It is a cult with dubious origins and some pretty whacked beliefs...
