The Mississippi River Delta is the cradle of American creativity.

Without this part of the country there would be no jazz, blue, or rock n roll.

Conservatives villify California because it deserves to be villified. In the 2010 elections, while most of the nation voted to roll back the tide of Marxism, California voted to futher embrace it by electing far left "Progressive" Democrats to every statewide office. California is a shining example of the total utter failure and glaring flaws of Liberalism. For an example of the contempt that the Right holds for the political establishment and climate of the state, just two of the sarcastic names for California are; "The Peoples Socialist Republic of Mexifornia", and "Kommiefornia."

As a Paleo or traditional Constitutional Conservative, not a NeoCon, that has called Southern California my home since FDR was in office, I am far more qualified to evaluate my state than are the arm chair analysts that post here. I have seen it decline over the decades from a wonderful place to live to one that I must soon abandon for another home. I have seen it overrun by hordes of immigrants with no concept or appreciation of American principles, many of these persons little more than savages. I have seen it's leadership and political offices taken over by men and women more dedicated to the thoughts of Marx and Lenin than to those of Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, or Lincoln. I have seen it's most productive citizens and companies driven out by exorbitant taxes and fees, stifling regulations, ruthless legal practices, and environmental extremism, all executed by the heavy hand of the political Left. And the question arises as to why California is viewed with contempt by conservatives?

It's because California exemplifies a lot of what conservatives hate: high taxes, diversity, regulations, environmentalism, secularism as well as religious diversity, educated cosmopolitan people, etc.

No question, and they do some terrific food too! Which is fine if they wanna dish out a little advice on any of those things ... except they've obviously got no business telling other states how to run their government (let alone their economy)!

Speaking of which, neither should we be seeking advice from folks with the dubious honor of having the poorest counties in our state (save for OC, the only county to ever declare bankruptcy, and also home of the John Birch Society... which even William F. Buckley Jr. called “idiotic” and “paranoid”)!

By "conservatarian," I mean that I am fiscally conservative and support significant cutbacks of government social net "benefits," requiring drug testing for welfare and food stamps, and absolutely loathe Obamacare. I think the current GOP is full of fiscal hypocrites. On the other hand, I believe gays should have the privilege to marry and divorce and I believe that government should legalize but seriously tax and regulate (in this case, it's fair to do so) all drug use.

However, California's conservative population stands at 30% of the electorate at the moment. Fiscal conservatives have made some gains this year as citizens have passed much-needed employee pension reform in San Jose and San Diego, as well as defeated a poorly-worded increase in the state cigarette tax. Ed Lee is the current mayor of San Francisco and about on par with Mayor Gray of Lexington, KY, a moderate Democrat; he's certainly right of the previous SF mayor, now-Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Yes, California is politically one-sided generally and really has been since Gov. Pete Wilson left office. Even Schwarzenegger wasn't particularly conservative. However, California still serves as a world center of finance, elite higher education, scientific research, technological innovation, agriculture, cosmopolitan urbanism, the "new urbanism" known as L.A. (for better or worse), aeronautics, and shipping and distribution. Sure, politically and fiscally, California is very much struggling. But, I literally meet conservatives outside of CA who are afraid of the "gay agenda" or hate California because of "overcrowding" or groan about all the "hassles of getting to the beach" (and they don't mean traffic). I wish I was being a troll, but I kid not, and these people have never been to California.

Yet...FOX NEWS is based smack dab in Manhattan! The nation's largest conservative think tanks, i.e.: Heritage and Landmark Legal, are based in D.C. Some of the most prominent talk radio hosts, Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, and Ingraham, have been based in the Northeast. NJ has Chris Christie as their current governor. Yet the most urban parts of the Northeast are arguably more strongly democratic than even California (save for SF). I mean, you can easily venture into the San Gabriel Valley, Palos Verdes, Riverside, or Orange Co. and find more conservative areas around L.A. Let's not forget San Diego, also.

Guess what? Hawaii is even MORE liberal than California, Chicago or the NE and has the absolute closest rendition of universal healthcare that can be found in the U.S. Do you hate Hawaii?

I'm from the South and so many people there want to visit Chicago and New York. However, the most die-hard of the "Tea Party" types have no desire to set foot in California, and I literally can't get in a word edgewise with these die-hards when I defend the state. Kind of makes me glad I never went to a Tea Party rally.

So, fellow conservatives...what gives?!

Just like detroit california is the perfect example of democratic policies.

Default Todays conservatives = Archie Bunker?

He said Mike & Gloria shouldn't move to CA because it's full of fruits & nuts.

And ever since then politicians have been getting chuckles with zingers about CA. THAT is really why they do it. Tried and true, although tired, material seems to be what the people want to hear.

I'm native NY'r but couldn't be in NYC for long without the medicinal effect of central park. I don't feel well when I'm too far away from trees, grass under my feet, or salty Island breezes. It doesn't have to make sense to anyone what I consider needful vitamin sunshine. Some sailors get homesick at sea, and others feel lonesome for the sea when landlocked too long. It's part of being human. Einstein didn't belong behind a plow, and Henry David Thoreau didn't belong in a cubicle.

Which rationalizes inflicting violence on Quakers. REAL conservatives protesting the shady agendas afoot tempering the nature and scope of our involvement in WW1. It was a psychotic rat trap and forewarned was forearmed. Casualties: 37 million, most of which were civilians, many more of our own spared as a direct result of their cautionary tales. Where's the medal for disaster prevention??? :::crickets::: Where's the paycheck for them when a war machine bankrolls bullhorns for their own agenda?

So say the hypocritical VFW thugs. There's an arbitrary law YOU CREATED prohibiting Veterans for Peace and Iraq Veterans Against the War from exercising free speech? Your selective enforcement disease disqualifies you from upholding the oath. So says this vet.

Homeless vets left behind on another battlefield don't count. Torture is legal for Rummy, but throw the troops under the bus at the first sign of accountability. Gulf 1 and Gulf 2 know up close and personal that R’s are F-troop PAMF’s. Wet brains can't handle the truth.

The stolen valor law won’t ever be passed by cons. The republican welfare program for CON men & F/T VFW bar stools residents must be protected. A disgrace to a fake uniform corrupting the mission, the UCMJ and the CURRENT wellbeing of the troops. Not contrived glory days that have no bearing on PRESENT TENSE reality.
