Most conservatives are more intellectual than liberals, who tend to be non-thinkers. They only follow. Liberals are like sheep, and they have no original thoughts. Most cannot even put a decent sentence together, let alone read and comprehend what someone else has written. It's very sad, but true.
Your immature black-and-white stereotypes suggest that whoever the members of the conservative intellectual wing may be, you are certainly not among them. I strongly suspect they would be able to articulate some evidence-based opinions rather than just ugly smears.

For fear that the rest of the conservatives will label them RINOs and toss them aside.

dont worry, the democrat party has enough bigotry in its party for the rest of the USA. just so you know, the democrat party is still considered the founding element of the KKK.

It is true that small town America cling to guns and religion. It's not the remark that you should be upset about. It's the reason why small town America clings to those two things.

1. Economic: With lack of corporate regulation, profits have soared in America. However, that's occurred with an ever decreasing amount of workers to aid in building those profits. Conservative ideals essentially have led businesses to pay low corporate rates and the owners to pay low personal rates. Thus, without jobs, or assistance (because of the lack of funds available to the government) people usually turn to things that are meaningful to them. Religion is a powerful social tool to establish meaning.

2. Education: With the lack of funding that is brought about and the searching of meaning (its no coincidence the most economically depressed areas in the nation are also the most religious) education has fallen by the wayside. The Bible Belt routinely debates science and tries to assert religion as a science. They obviously are not the same. Education in this region is lower than the national average. Conservative ideals also, oddly, are against teachers. You may disagree, but Scott Walker has made it quite clear that is the conservative platform. Disparaging "fat cat teachers". Yes a starting teacher's salary of 35k is "living large" (sarcasm). Conservatives also like to throw the "ivy tower" epithet around as if being educated is tantamount to being brainwashed. The irony is lost on many.

3. Healthcare: We all know the conservative platform on this. No universal healthcare or government plan. This lack of competition leads to ridiculously high costs in areas that are economically depressed and lack the education to create a better situation. Thus many people forgo healthcare in these regions.

With all of these trials and tribulations in the most conservative parts of the nation, a search of meaning and a better life are needed. Thus many find solace in religion and survival-ism (guns).

If you look at a list of the world's most livable cities, they are quite liberal and have lower rates of religion and guns.

Really?! Because I went to easily the most liberal large university in the nation. Literally the most liberal. More liberal than Berkeley. My conservative friends passed with flying colors by providing evidence of their stance and creating logical arguments against the professor's stance.

Granted, they were not too socially conservative, but they all voted for Bush and McCain (the self proclaimed conservative candidates).

Democrat and Republican = parities. Liberal and conservative = ideology. Conservatives, not liberals, founded the KKK. Let's remember that at one point the liberal party was the Republican party. That now switched. However not all Democrats are liberal and not all Republicans are conservative.

So the higher the education level, the more likely you were to vote for the liberal candidate in 2008.

Actually, no. Did you read the rest of that post and the post I made before it (and see the exit poll data I linked to)? The higher the education level up to a Bachelor's degree the more likely you were to vote Republican in both 2008 and 2010. However, those with advanced degrees were more likely to vote Democrat than those with Bachelor's degrees.

I imagine that is because Republicans do **** poor among people with advanced scientific training, attorneys, and people with Ph.Ds, I think they even lose medical doctors as well.

The most stark of this group is scientists. The GOP comes in dead last among scientists. I think something like 6% of scientists are Republican, 55% are Democrats and 32% are independent.

Thus, the more educated you are, the more likely to vote liberal. Also according to Pew, for each percentage point a state increases for the percent bachelor's, there is an increase of .75% points Democrat. So the more educated the more likely to be liberal.
