My guess he was just being a *&*&#. I'm so sick of this election season. The supporters on both sides are going way to far IMHO.

I have no idea if it was intended as racist or not. He said it wasn't so I'm inclined to believe him.

But why the hell did he hang a chair from a tree? If he wanted to make a statement about Obama being an 'empty chair president' why not just stick the chair out front of his house? The reason he gave because he likes to do yard work, just seems odd. So hanging it from the tree is easier than moving it when you happen by with the mower?

Just how odd it is that someone would just hang a chair from a tree, it is blinding obvious that people are going to assume it is racist. Why else would anyone do that? I mean it is a chair that is intended to represent a black man and it is hanging from a tree. No one should be at all surprised that people came to that conclusion. What the heck did he think people were going to say about it? lol What other reason is there for someone hang a representation of a black man from a tree?

If he said it wasn't intended to be racist then it probably wasn't. I imagine is is just an angry old man on lots of medication and wasn't thinking at all clearly when he did that so didn't think about what other people would think of why he hung a chair from a tree.

Why is it always a old white guy with southern accent who lives out in the suburbs who constantly finds himself in these types of scenarios?

It is obviously racist, but that doesn't mean he wasn't just an idiot who didn't realize exactly what he was doing. The symbolic lynching thing had been done first by a guy in Virginia, though (Blue Virginia:: Photos: Symbolic Lynching of "Nobama" at Bull Run Park This Weekend)... and if he was copying that it is pretty much intentional racism.

We'll never know his true intent...

...BUT...if it was, indeed, racism...that's the scary thing about it. There are people who will be covert. They will either deny, cover up or downplay it.

I can't imagine that he WOULD admit it if it was meant to be racist.

Lynching the chair that represents a black President is racist in my eyes. Lets not beat around the bush.
