Thailand and Thai people are wonderful. To me once out of the City of Bangkok it is paradise.
It's a beautiful country - I spent several months traveling there (and other parts of SE Asia) and I absolutely loved it!

I avoid Bangkok, Phuket and Pataya as I am really not interested in cities. I like Hua hin, Chum Phon and up north Udon Thani.

I wouldn't mind emmigrating myself. . though not because of a particular party. I just always wanted to live in Europe *sigh.

The problem is. . .I dunno, most of the world is more screwed up than we are. I guess Norway or Luxemburg would be your best bet. Though changing your investing strategy or where you live because a single president with no real budget/economic authority. . seems a little crazy to me.

I actually quite liked Bangkok but preferred Chiang Mai, Trat and Koh Chang - I didn't go to Pattaya or Phuket but neither really appealed - same with the busier islands.....oh thinking about it really makes me want to go back!!!!!

Have you ever been to Sri Lanka? That's somewhere that you might enjoy visiting. The predominant religion is Buddhism and the people have the same pride and nice attitude that the Thais have.

Notice that they hold that view unless/until it is financially advantageous to think otherwise.

Have to say, how anyone could willingly support, or plan to retire (escape) to, a country that leads the world in human trafficking is totally beyond me.

I'm not sure which country you refer too. If it is Thailand perhaps you should vist the country before passing judgment. In fact I would encourage you to look at some youtube clips and see who the customers are that solicit the sex from prostitutes. Most are european men. Ask one of the women who have chosen to work the sex industry and they will tell you. European men.
Ask the many ladyboys who solicit them. Russians, Germans and gasp swiss men. All men from socalled 1st world countries. So who is evil in the story?
Being married to a Thai woman I know a bit about Thailand and the culture and no Thailand is not perfect. That said they don't have their hand in our wallets, they don't ask us to change for them and they don't try to dictate how anyone else lives their lives.
How many countries has Thailand invaded in the last 70 years?
How many people have Thai Budhists killed ?
You can judge all you like, but perhaps you should go there and see with your own eyes rather than depending upon the media.
After the tsunami in 05 the media portrayed Thailand as destroyed a must avoid country. I was there 3 months after the event and very few places showed signs of the disaster, and that includes phuket.

Right, the Socialist natural progression is hatred of the producers with attempted extermination to seize full power. Examples of Socialist power extensions:

National Socialists (Nazi) of Germany - 40 million killed
United Soviet Socialists - 20 million killed
Chinese Socialist (Mao Zedong) - 45 million killed

And the list goes on. The hatred exhibited by the new American Socialists or a precursor to what they would do if they got the power...same as their Sociaist predecessors.

I've lived and worked for significant time in Moscow, Shanghai, Seoul, Dubai, Ulan Bator and my business is only funded by U.S. businees of about 30%. For possible new locations, I've already checked out Thailand, Malaysia, Phillipines and I want to check out Peru & Chile. As many of the Socialist Haters have pointed out in this thread, the options of finding an acceptable alternative are limited.
