that may be true, but they will add it "to our tab" and we will have to pay interest on the "money borrowed".

you can bet a lot of that money isn't going to make it to any relief effort.

i really resent the media (and governor christie also) for thanking obama for promising OUR money. why is it that politicians take all the credit for the "benevolence" but WE are the ones doing all the giving?-and that means every american will be paying for the NY/NJ storm.

i just wish that there was somebody out there who would start tracking the "rescue" spending from day #1, and monitor it--- as it's OUR money and we have a right to see that it is actually used to HELP needy people, not enrich a select few.

You're right about FDR. However, Nixon did create some havoc with his decisions regarding gold:

You feel that FDR dropping the gold standard was a theft, but Nixon's refusal to give gold for dollars wasn't?

Obviously your house or neighborhood wasnt affected.had your house or neighborhood been wiped out by some natural disaster what would your solution be to clean it all up, every one is on their own?

I was reading an Ayn Rand essay the other day, and in it she said that the statements people make are admissions. In that sense, your post is an admission that you aren't a sufficiently reasonable person to divorce your emotions from your logical decision making; the evidence of that is your expectation that his opinion would be different if he were the person who could use help, emotional.

Doesn't it bother you that you use emotions to make decisions?

Like i said Nixon was a jerk and by then the gold was gone... There was no gold std and in fort knox the gold was gone and still is gone.. Since FDR we have been in a state of emergency.

Ike put 500 souls on the ground in Nam, JFK stepped it up, got killed in 64, LBJ took the helm for the next 10 years and then Nixon got a chance to play Such fools......

That gold....... it's all gone, the big they just won't tell us..... If we had it they would be flaunting it. Just like SS that too has been wasted instead of invested wisely...Waste and corruption is what the Feds are....

We the people are supposed to 'trust' them really......

Could it be i was a tad too harsh on you? maybe.......

But that has nothing to do with gold or FDR. The state of emergency is an artificial war economy that was initiated with National Security Council Memorandum 68, which was signed by Truman.

For general/civil cleanup and repairs - YES. We do that as a country. For personal loss... if they have insurance - NO. Otherwise, low cost federal assistance to get back to normal, with restricted choices.

In response to the impact of Hurricane Sandy, Comcast is opening its XFINITY WiFi hotspots to non-Comcast subscribers in PA, NJ, DE, MD, DC, VA, WV, MA, NH and ME until Nov. 7. Users should search for the network "xfinitywifi" and click on "Not a Comcast subscriber?" at the bottom of the sign-in page. Users should select the "Complimentary Trial Session" option from the drop down list. The Open Wireless Movement thanks Comcast for helping out!

I would be fine with that. I don't value money more than people.

Wasn't aimed at me, but I am similar to the poster you quoted and no, it doesn't bother me that I use emotions to make decisions.

I am a human and by nature human beings have emotions. We also have logic but sometimes emotions can supercede the logic of logic and cause a person to make a better decision.
