Why do republican slumlords bother then? if there's no profit in it for them. Aren't republicans greedy people? They're surely not in it to help anyone.
Oh wait, I just figured it out, tax writeoffs and loopholes. gotcha!

We do it for the tax write offs and because we like to see people like you suffer.. Why else?

Clearly its not to make money and provide for our family.. That would be dumb when we can just go on welfare like you guys.

For example, in a number of states, Republicans have combined a property tax cut (renters unable to keep more of what they have earned) with a sales tax hike (renters guaranteed to keep less of what they have earned).

A number of blue states provide property tax relief to renters and homeowners; red states are happy to help homeowners but not help renters. Even help offered to renters in red states, though rare, is also vulnerable to repeal; Missouri eliminated its circuit breaker property tax credit for renters last year.

A number of red states tax rental property at higher rates than owner-occupied homes; when this policy expands into blue states, there are usually Republicans involved, as in Michigan where Republicans created a nonhomestead tax that makes the total school tax rate on rental property four times the rate on owner-occupied homes.

And Mario Rubio spent a lot of time and energy in Florida trying to cut property taxes for homeowners while sticking renters with a higher sales tax and fewer dollars in their pockets.

And Rubio also sponsored a bill to allow landlords to charge two months rent to any renter who breaks a lease early. While it is always appropriate to charge for actual damages. Rubio's bill allows landlords to stick it to renters even when the landlord comes out ahead (e.g. by re-renting the apt at a higher price in a rising market) and suffer no economic damages.

These Republicans are usually the same people who support exclusionary zoning (which, according to Thomas Sowell, redistributes income upward from renters to homeowners) while opposing rent control (which is effectively the flip side of zoning). So Republicans support picking winners and losers as long as the winners are homeowners and the losers are renters.

What do Republicans have against renters and why do they treat renters so badly?
I am republican I rent a house from a republican, I see no such thing, I choose to rent, I have been in the same house 14 years. In that time the roof collapsed , the sub floors collapsed the shower leaked and flooded doing over 35000 damage I was not responsible for, I do not do the yard and the price of the house has fallen drastically and for my land lord so has the taxes. On the good side i pay on time and do not call for little stuff. I choose to rent and i put into savings more because of it. I like my republican land lord and do not feel anything you mention

I'm still waiting for the sewer lateral to get repaired, meanwhile, black water (poopy) is being discharged under the apartment with every flush of the toilet.

So you're telling me that you like to live in houses where poop is discharged under your home everytime you flush? Well thats your choice, dont expect me to share your excitement.

Btw, the repair is about $2.00, for a new wax ring.. PUT ONE IN..

I don't. so, don't concern yourself. I am looking for another apartment, not that it's any business of yours, and btw, I'm not a welfare recipient either.

I contend my republican slumlord is too cheap in not having code violations repaired, he is a shyster.

I take nothing you say seriously enough to be concerned. If you didnt want it to be our business, why did you tell us?

Just like a lazy Democrat, expecting everyone to do everything for you. I guess when moving is easier and cheaper than spending $2, I'd move too..

Good point. Renters never worry when the toilet is plugged or the pipes has broken and water is going everywhere. They're not expected to help out or chip in for repairs.
