No it's not new.

However, it does follow the law of unintended consequences and this is going to be one of the downsides to the legislation.

I generally support Obamacare but seriously, stop pushing it like it's all unicorn kisses and sunshine....there are going to be some negatives to ANY legislation that gets passed, nothing is perfect.

P.S. My buddies that work for some of the big mega-health insurers say thanks for the business!

They will just work a 2nd job....but it's still a PITA to have to juggle schedules and often the persons 2nd job pays less because they have to take something lesser at times because it has to fit around their 1st jobs schedule.

It's the Obama plan to decrease unemployment. Hire more workers part time is better than hiring full time workers.

Thus unemployment rates drop. But food stamp roles increase for the working poor.

I tend to feel that a National Health Care Plan is a good idea. The current plan probably has some weaknesses in it, but IIRC the Republicans never even proposed a plan, so they have nothing to complain about (And, BTW, i could care less about Republicans or Democrats, or politics in general. It is silly to 'blame' a political party for deficiencies in our health care plans--lobbyists notwithstanding).

Now, on the issue of Krogers, or let's use Walmart. Walmart uses lots of part time employees. They are specifically told as part of their employee orientation that there are numerous Federal programs available to them to cover shortfalls in their earnings (relative to being able to feed and house themselves) and to provide medical care. Use them! It is that simple. Walmart, and others, dump their employee costs on all of us in an effort to bring us cheap crap at cheap prices.

So, think about that the next time you are 'getting a bargain' at Walmart. You save $.50 on the paper towels, but you pay an extra dollar in taxes to fund the programs which provide 'benefits' to the Walmart employee.

It's the law of the land, and Walmart and many other employers use it to their complete advantage.

Why is it always BS to tell the truth. ObamaCare is artificially increasing costs to businesses, and a lot of part timers will feel the pain..

Obama is slower but surely destroying this country with all his bad decisions and bad policies.
It happens slowly and is an insidious blanket of doom that falls so slowly people don't realize what's happening. When they finally realize how badly damaged they are, they don't have the sense to put 2 and 2 together and know who is at fault.

Look at how many fools are sitting around saying 0care hasn't hurt them. They're too stupid to realize it hasn't even taken effect yet.

20 Part-time Jobs With Health Insurance
Offering health insurance and the number of part-time employees who actually meet the hourly threshold to sustain it are two different things. I'm not surprised that you don't understand this considering you think that $150 Million in profits for a grocery chain with ~1,550 stores in the United States is worth mentioning.

As others mentioned, this would be a reason not to support this type of store, regardless. It's poor business practice to 'profit' off of the backs of your hard-working employees.

Obamacare would provide federal healthcare subsidies for the many part-time employees right now who are unable to receive benefits from their employers who have practiced this type of business prior to the birth of Obamacare.

Here's an article from the WSJ, not biased to one side, that provides more detail about the program, it's pros, cons, and, why something needs to be done to fix the present dysfunctional state of our healthcare system:

David Gamage: ObamaCare's Costs to the Working Class - WSJ.com
Exactly.
I worked retail back in the 70s and they were doing it then. As soon as someone had worked long enough to qualify for benefits they got laid off.

Also worked for and have known of other companies that did whatever possible to limit the number of employees to less than 50 so that they didn't have to provide benefits, etc.

Employers will always find ways to limit their "liability." Always have, always will.

It's amusing how libs don't seem to have the sense to realize that companies start out in business to make money and not merely to serve people for no financial gain.

Life is not just one big hobby. But they don't get it. The prospect of making money and investing is foreign to them. That's why they live in the bottom of society.
