Hell no its not!

The TeaParty position on many things usually is screaming "STATES RIGHTS!!" to deceptively seem innocent enough and then go behind the backs of states citizens to shadowy dark corporate money (Koch bros et all) and fund the defeat of the bill. And when the bill finally gets defeated, show up and say "Hey man, its upto the states, we ain't cant do nuthin' if the states folks aint want it!"

Good question. Lets see what Obama has to say about it shall we................

"Recently, there have been increasing efforts to legalize marijuana. The Obama Administration has consistently reiterated its firm opposition to any
form of drug legalization
. Together with Federal partners and state and local officials, the Office of National Drug Control Policy is working to reduce the use of marijuana and other illicit drugs through development of strategies that fully integrate the principles of prevention, treatment, recovery, and effective supply reduction efforts. Proposals such as legalization that would promote marijuana use are inconsistent with this public health and safety approach."

Huh? Who cares about the tea party. I'm talking conservatism.

The real reason it hasn't been legalized doesn't have as much to do directly with the right wing as many would think. The real reason that it is illegal is because there's a lot of money in people getting into trouble. The American system of crime and punishment doesn't have hardly anything to do with the safety or overall good of the people, it has to do with raking in that cash. Look at all the lawyers, judges, cops, clerks, security guards, wardens, prison guards etc; all of them are making their living on people getting into trouble. I don't mean some crappy wage that working folks get paid, we're talking billions and billions of dollars per year and marijuana is the easiest thing to pin people on. Plus it conveniently hides behind the old "well it's your choice" platitude. America doesn't own 25% of the worlds prison population for no reason - it's just easier to charge people outlandish prices to tell them they're in trouble than it is to get a real job.

Because many conservatives, like many liberals, are complete and total hypocrites.

That being said, as was pointed out earlier in the thread, many of the rank and file do support legalization, and one of the most adamant critics of the drug war in the country is as conservative as they come.

Why? Hypocrisy! Also, not knowing their history and realizing that it was liberal policies that banned it in the first place! I agree with you about putting a Libertarian in office. But, more people are waking up to the lies and propaganda about cannabis, and it's prohibition, and that is evident due to the 2 states who have decided to tell the feds where to stick it, and legalized it! As with prohibition of alcohol, where states went against the feds, I'm hoping that more states will follow suit. There is no rhyme or reason for cannabis to remain illegal, when you have other substances that are way worse that are legal!
