I swear the title of this thread sounds like something Stephen Colbert would say.

You sound satisfied with this definition, but I don't even think those two things are currently true.

Obama’s use of equality and the Declaration of Independence in his speech was really about civil rights. He took a big risk with: “through Seneca Falls, and Selma, and Stonewall” and explicitly linking women, African Americans and gays.

When Proposition 8 passed in California, some attributed the margin to African American church leaders who were angry at gay marriage being connected to the civil rights struggle. Obama himself was against gay marriage at the time.

All that is over with this speech. Gay marriage passed with help of the African American voters (not to mention churches) in Maryland. That’s a tremendous change in only four years.

Equal is equal. Period.

All civil rights ARE and HAVE to be equal to all men/women. The President is correct.

People should be able to access a living wage without being high-level white collar career types. There doesn't have to be complete equality of results, but something is wrong if you have a nation where the middle class used to be able to access jobs on which they could support a family, and now they are working minimum wage / no benefit part-time service jobs and still not able to provide. The recognition of this problem is a central difference between today's conservatives and liberals.

and equality is so obviously disappearing completely.

The rich getting way richer whilst now the middle and working classes are the same.

soon they'll both be in the ranks of the lumpenproles!

yet, the stooges, liars, thieves and hypocrites at the higher end of the income scale, continue to preach and practice their evil.

...So you're basically admitting that the Conservative game here is to deny fellow Americans equal rights, freedoms, and opportunities for whatever reason they can think of?

Are you really that pretentious and ignorant that you think you speak for all Conservatives, you pompous ass?

Seriously just how unpatriotic are you willing to get for your agenda? This has nothing to do with Obama or liberals. It has everything to do with you being so against the American system and way of life that you'd deny your fellow American rights that you take advantage of just for them being different.

Talk about bigotry to the an unparalleled degree. You ought to be ashamed of yourself. I actually feel sorry for you.

Blame failure on discrimination sells very well with the low information voter. Obama never mentioned much if anything about hard work, saving, stay in school, self-reliance....those things make people independent from the government and Liberals don't want that type of voter.

That's typical conservative claptrap. No one in American society expects to have much of anything without working for it. Stop acting as if conservatives invented the idea of hard work leading to upward mobility.

I've yet to meet a laborer that thought he/she should have as much as a doctor does.

You guys listen to too much Limbaugh.
