Being a democracy, party alignments should shift with the demographics. If the Democrats control the government for an extended length of time, they will tend to pull the alignment to the left. That will ultimately rebalance the voting blocks, allowing the Republicans to come back into power. It's a pendulum created by opposing political forces, so it's going to oscillate.

Thank you for the physics lesson, Professor. Kind of fascinating, when viewed in that light. And fairly obvious.

Except for being the first black POTUS, Obama is already a footnote in American history.

But why should the various interest groups listed be singled out? Women, gay, minority and etc. will not be assisted by singling them out. They will be assisted by simply including them in the American economy and experience.
Which is what is actually happening.

I wouldn't say #17 and two terms and getting us out of the Great Recession is a footnote:

At the same time, he's not in the top 5 or 10 and never will be. But there is something to be said for being well above the middle and GWB and not being in the bottom 3 or 4....who, let's face it, are the worst of the worst of a pretty bad lot (that is, we could grab someone off the street and they probably wouldn't be in the bottom 10).

The only marks Obama and his ingrate pig wife made are skid marks on the history of the USA.

Democrats have been flooding the country with third worlders for decades. They are more likely to vote socialist, particularly when Dems cater to them. If we kept traditional US demographics then we could have continued as a unified country. Instead it’s Adios America...

The biggest challenge that I see for the Democratic Party is a simple one. Define "Democratic Party." The reason I ask is I think the party, in it's current configuration, is too big and it needs to be split into at least 2 separate parties. It's obvious that the more moderate liberals and the more radical liberals are not on the same page. Living in Seattle, I see this manifest often. The party is too big and too far spread out to satisfy everybody. With this being the case, it's REALLY difficult for the Dems to come up with a cohesive mission statement other than "let's oust Trump."

That will either happen at the end of this year or in 4 years but then what??? It's really difficult to create a united platform when everybody is screaming and nobody is listening. Everybody wants representation. The Dems can't even agree on a running mate in November let alone creating a solid concrete platform. I say break the Democratic platform into two plus I think it's about time American got away from a two party system. I think it's outdated.

But until these issues can be mended, I'm not so sure the future for the Democratic party is that rosy.

I live in Texas where the wheel has turned from yellow dog Democrat to Republican. The wheel certainly will turn again, not in 2020, but maybe 2024. That's life.

The problem is Democrats will turn Texas into California - squeeze the middle class out so you're either wealthy or poor.

Florida may hold on to a decent middle class because they have enough seniors who will vote Republican to keep it a purple state. One-party rule is the road to ruin regardless of which party it is.
