I see it a bit differently than most.
In the last several years the drive against morality has escelated and the liberals are championing that issue strongest.
A few generations left now are holding on to the morality that is left by isolating them selves rather than compromising with something they know to be very wrong and damaging history has proven and reproven ,but no one listens .
Young people now are the same as the hippies of the 60s, making excuses and damaging their bodies their minds, and their future .

There are other examples, open your eyes.

It seems the days of convincing someone of something or being convinced by anyone of something are gone.

Thanks
Because there is an active effort to change our form of government from a Constitutionally based Democratic Republic to an authoritarian system based upon manipulating mobs in the false name of Democracy.

This is one of the only responses that had made sense in this thread.

What these left v. right, lib v. con types don't realize is that the two groups live amongst each other, send their kids to the same private schools, and socialize with each other in one of the wealthiest regions in America: the suburbs of N. Virginia where our politicians (pigs) and their lobbyist buddies reside.

I believe in libertarianism, so the neo-conservatives and "liberals" (fascists) are diametrically opposed to everything I agree with. Many young people who haven't been baptized in the holy water of King Obama feel the same way. These two parties do not represent us, and until a viable 3rd party emerges, we will continue this course towards secession and the break up of the union.

Why the polarization??????

We are at a fork in the road leading to a redefinition of America that is opposed to every fiber of its constitution. This is not politics as usual.

Our electorate is beset with one issue voters, grossly uninformed and lacking the ability to think critically.

Most of all, the biggest red flag, elephant in the room is the main stream media turned propaganda machine for the obama administration.

News is supressed to forward a political agenda, never before in our history has media bias been that out of control.

Add to that the blatant reversals by Obama that are never questioned or investigated by the media. No media coverage means it never happened. We have to see comparable situatuions bewtween GWB and BHO where the media excoriated GWB and absolutelu ignore the same transgressions by obama.

Be warned the only political beliefs that will be tolerated with be the that of the reigning despot. This was evidenced by an obama official calling for the dissolution of political opposition.

That proclamation should cause you to lose sleep. that swirling growling sound is America going down the drain of Obama's hope and change as he 're-writes our huistory'.

The dems think the reps are racist and stupid. The reps think dems are socialist who do not believe in the constitution
Not a lot of reason to respect the other side

Just like the GOP base will never accept minorities as equals. That's what this boils down to.
What it boils down too are posers who cannot discuss the issues so they falsely play the race card. Deflect from the horrible policies Obomney has because discussing them exposes the big government dems for the failures that they are. They believe that different races and the sexes want different things which is one of the most absurd things that gets said by the left.
Which group doesn't want a better education for our children? Which group doesn't want the ability to run their own lives instead of government running it for them? Which group doesn't want to stop our bloated military offensive spending?
Last I checked minorities still have it bad in this country financially. Funny how the dems make more money than the repubs even though they have the larger percentage of minorities which brings the earning levels down. On top of that even though repubs earn less they donate more than the selfish dems do. So when it comes to getting minorities on equal footing the repressive democratic platform isn't the one to follow. So keep telling minorities how the democratic platform is helping. They might not hear you since your foot is on their neck. Always best to be the master and not the slave right dems?

The failure to acknowledge the individual is the mistake both parties make.

As you can see from most of the answers here, you can't even get a thoughtful, unbiased answer to your question. I think the primary reason is the media. People don't take the time to think for themselves and they rely on whatever media they choose, unaware that their favorite media is just out to make a buck by whipping people into a frenzy. They're being manipulated for profit.

Exactly.

Why in the world must every damn debate have to include the words "republican", "democrat", "progressive", "conservative", "liberal", etc.?

Personally, my political viewpoints are all over the chart. There's no way in hell you could pigeonhole me into a particular politcal party. And, frankly, I think it's the politcal parties - and those of you who march blindingly to thier drumbeat - that are the major source of problems, along with a media on both sides of the spectrum that doesn't know what "unbiased" means.

You have people out there that have chosen politcal affiliations without having any effin' clue as to what those parties mean. They have simply chosen based on what mom & dad were, or what their families have been in the past.

To prove this, I asked a student once what political party he belonged to. He said, "I'm a ****." I said great. Now tell me what specifically made you choose this party.

He said, "they stand for yadda yadda yadda."
"Well, what specifically do they have on their platform that will make this happen?"
"Platform?"
"You know - what are their specific plans to make this happen?"
"Well, I don't know!"
"Then how do you know this is the best plan?"
"Well, I guess I don't know."
"But you've chosen this political party over the other, correct?"
"Yup."
"Let me guess. You're mom and dad are ****'s, aren't they?"
"Yup."
"And you've chosen to be a **** without actually knowing what they specifically stand for, right?"

This situation, realistically speaking, covers almost 75% of our nation. If that isn't sad, I don't know what is. We have ignorant people picking sides without actually knowing what those sides are.

We have probably one of the most diverse - religiously, ethnically, politically, racially, socioeconomically, etc. - countries on the planet. And you're a damn fool if you expect that any governmental body could satisfy everyone. The statement, "when you try to please everyone, you please no one" applies. Therefore, if you can't see that compromise is an absolute necessity in our government, you haven't two brain cells to rub together. If you can't agree that compromise is inevitable, then you're a selfish bast$rd that couldn't give a crap about the welfare of others as long as you get what you want. If you can't understand that this country contains 320 million other people besides yourself, and they have just as much of a right to freedoms, liberties, benefits, etc, then someone needs to remind you that the world does not revolve around you.

As trite and cliched as is sounds, the only way we make this work is to have respect, compassion and consideration for others. And let's try to drop the "since my opinion is MY opinion, it's the only one worth having" attitude, shall we?
