the federal min wage should be higher. It should raise with inflation.

And we need a federal mandatory vacation pay law. Every other western democracy has one. Every full-time worker, no matter what job, should be guaranteed with 3 weeks paid vacation.

We need to treat all work as honorable in this country and stop with this "you're a fast food worker lol" nonsense.

You are correct - Average rent in NYC = $2568. This all the more indicates the utter ridiculousness and unsustainability of the wages being paid to massive groups in our society.

BTW, there are no places to rent in western ND. The newcomers live in campers, their cars or in tents in one of the most God-forsaken corners of this country that you will ever see.

Fast food is more about towe thigns. Fast and at cheap rpice. It was never meant to employ alot of adult burger flipers ;mostly part time teens with a manager. It also relies on automation to make it fast. They likely will have a time competing with local burger shops in the future if the prices increasewhcih is who they elimnated in many locations in the first place.

Then again, you are the expert. After all, you researched your subject so much, you didn't even realize this was the case.

How DARE they demand to get paid more than their North Dakota counterparts in NYC!
Calgary and other places in Alberta also have people working at fast food restaurants for ~$15 as does North Dakota. I'm thinking NYC is not an unreasonable place for such a wage. Hell, in San Francisco fast food workers start off at ~$12 and get health insurance and they can't hire enough people because people leave for still better paying jobs.

So tell us, what has replaced our manufacturing sector for employment? And what are the people who could have had good employment in that area supposed to do now? They take whatever jobs they can find, which would include min. wage jobs at fast food places. I've never seen any signs outside McDonalds saying "job opening for teenagers only." You know, if companies manage to "automate" almost all of those jobs, who do you think will have the money to eat at those places? Conservatives seem to forget that if "consumers" have no extra money, they're not going to be buying "stuff" including eating at cheap fast food places very often.

Fast food workers should definitely unionize and get paid more than "slave wages" for their work.

Well, no, not necessarily. The brains required to shun Texas do not necessarily elevate one to average levels of intelligence. Personally, I think she might want to work on butt-kissing and land a middle management job. Then again, women just don't seem to enjoy internet message boards, on the whole, so I'm worried how she might spend her working hours on that particular job.

They're ~$7.50 in Calgary and, yes, they pay ~$15 an hour.

The US would be better off if fast food was just eliminated entirely.

I certainly hope that doesn't include the Olive Garden or Applebee's or I will have to completely rethink how I torment you guys in the future.

Personally, I think a minimum of ten fast-food chains beat the heck out of Applebee's, whose food falls somewhere between wallpaper and mummified rat turds. Then again, you do get waitresses with plenty of flair and that whole singing of "Happy Birthday," which never fails to bring a smile to my face and a tingle to my heart.

BTW, few things are more dehumanizing than when they march their wage slaves out to the floor to sing that to one of you. If you had a shred of humanity, you'd spare those poor sods the humiliation.
