Just another excuse to blame women for everything wrong in the country. Exucse me it takes two to tango. Why not teach boys to respect women in return, tell them how to control their urges and use condoms. Don't go making babies all over the country and leave the 'evil' single mother with the responsibility you both created. The female gets stuck with the **** shaming while the male is off scott free. No wonder we have more male serial killers than female. Women are just suppose to suck it up while 'boys will be boys' still runs rampant. And 44% on TANF are domestic abuse survivors. I hardly call $600 a month sucking the system dry.

You can't just look at the welfare piece, anymore than you can look at costs of war without the lifelong costs of war injuries or the drug problems a lot of vets have. Some single moms are that way because of the jerks they let get them pregnant. As a result, some raise good kids. But the majority more than make up for this. They mess up their own lives, and then their cluelessness radiates out to mess up the lives of strangers.
The thread title stated that "single moms are making us broke," which is a patently ludicrous statement.

As for the quality of mothering provided by single mothers - show me some stats that support your contention that the majority of single mothers raise bad kids.

I agree.

So let's advocate for more abortions and give all women free birth control.

Stats? Show me any stats at all. Your argument has been nothing but one generality after another. It would be more to the point that prison inmates come from broken homes. I've watched enough histories of prominent drug kingpins and Mafia soldiers to know that a home like that is always lurking back there. Almost none of them come from a home of responsible working parents. And in a lot of cases, the parents get involved with them in the crime.

But this much I agree with. Soucheray must have slumbered for a few years. People are BROKE because (a) the jobs in the economy are worse and worse; and (b) they've tried to shield themselves from the reality by running up ridiculous levels of debt. That's in home finance and government finance too. Bad parents do produce a lot of need for expenditure to handle the consequences of kids growing up thugs. Truth is that entertainment shares that blame. But, again, parents who were respected would be LISTENED to if they explained how useless these entertainers are. But single moms too often don't deserve to be authorities on how to live life successfully.

That was urbanlife that made that comment, not me.

Are all these single mothers in the south?

Statistically, there's more children in poverty in the south (based on those who qualify for free/reduced lunch). But we all know that single mothers exist everywhere. You also have horrible counties in the north like Mahoning/Trumbull, Ohio that have about 50% of their children on free/reduced lunch programs.

While single parenting might be a factor, region is a much larger factor:

Here's something for Ray1945 to read:

Our tabulations indicate that the federal government spent $99.8 billionin fiscal year 2006 for direct services forfatherless households.

Caveat. That's DIRECT costs, and dated BEFORE the banking meltdown. You have to read more to see how many different ways single moms generate costs.
