Religion should never have any place in politics. In an ideal world I would go one step further and make it illegal for openly religious people to hold positions of power.
No, I see no connection between the two. Rights don't stem from government.
Well every right you have from voting, to saying what you want, chosing your religion, keeping your own property etc has it's basis in laws.
Laws are legislated by governments and collections of governments, such as the Eu parliament, geneva convention, US congress+senate, etc.
Alleged rights found in religious scripts such as the bible or your own moral opinion of what you should have the rights to or from lack relevance until put into actual law, because these "rights" lack organized support.
Every single right you have is legislated, otherwise it's not a "right" of yours.
Religion does have a role to play in Government but it is a very small and well Defined role. things like recognizing that god exists and that we get our rights from him and not the government but other than that it shouldn't play a role.
No proof at all of gods existance, so that cannot be recognized, nor do our rights come from someones god. It is government that governs all of us, not your god. God should be left at the altar and not used to determine rights for all Free citizens of the USA. Using your god to enact laws is forcing ones religion and beliefs on everyone regardless of their beliefs.
Because anti-theists have turned a reference made IN A LETTER about a state run religion, that we should have freedom FROM religion instead of freedom OF religion.
We have freedom from and of religion. I have the freedom to not practice it or to not believe in god. Same as you have the freedom to believe in any god you want to, but keep your god out of my life.

And they do not come from a fantasy figure. Rights are commons sense that any person should have. Do not like to get kicked, don't kick someone else and you wont get kicked back. As long as government is in the position to grant or remove rights, we get our rights from government. God is in someones mind, no proof of its existance.

The protection of rights is a proper role of government.
However, and this is important to understand, the SOURCE of thoes rights is NOT goverment.
So the politicians of iran are apparently proposing a law to let 9 year old marry to fit sharia law
Let them worry about that over in the Muslim countries. As long as we don't start applying Sharia law over here I'm fine
or use the god so many believe in for their political campaigns?
if they want to use God, it's their gain or loss. Are you thinking about limiting free speech now? No "God" allowed to be mentioned now by anyone running for office?
"pro life", based on their "christian morals and values".
So now they can't call "pro-life" now because that somehow invokes God and religion? So now they have to refer to it as anti-abortion?
President bush ended the better part of his speaches along the lines with "god bless america"
So did a lot of television hosts in america at one time, ending their broadcast with a mention of God. So what?
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
Thank you for recognizing this. So many think "Separation of Church and State" is in our Constitution. It is NOT. The second amendment simple means that Congress shall not make a law establishing a "state" or officially recognized religion. It also means that that it won't hinder freely exercising religion. It is just that our country is on such an "anti-Christian" binge lately that the radical left thinks this gives them carte blanche to attack Christianity wherever it appears in public (as evidenced in such organizations as Freedom From Religion Foundation amongst many others. These organizations outwardly attack Christianity and then claim they are not doing so, only upholding constitutional freedoms, or claim that Christianity is attacking the rest of society as the reason for their attacks. Don't forget, in today's politically correct world Christians can NEVER be "victims".

Is an agnostic, I agree with you on that. I never asserted them came from "god". They exist on their ow. Each of us has an inate understanding of them, as you have articulated.
Politics and religion are a perfect fit in all respects, although arguing and debate, may have to be an integral part of
our social interaction and duty to bring stability to this country? The government and church have failed independently so lets get some good old fashion anti-coexistence and political correctness foolishness outta here and replace it with hysteria ,screaming and confrontational zeal!! Stop those who don't mix politics with religion they are playing games. Give anti-government, pro-government and the church a podium. Defy all these gay ,same sex and amoral,jack-wagons, who ignore Gods covenants, Defy Sharia anything, and restore OUR constitution. OH my!!
