Hammack, for her part, is taking credit for keeping the kids safe. The fire "probably would have progressed had it not been put out before [the fire trucks arrived]," she told WTEV-TV. She was also able to march her students out of the building to safety. And so, she says, she's being mistreated. "I didn't start the fire. I put it out." She's protested her firing outside the school. Parents have yet to make a comment to the media about her story."

Daycare Teacher Fired After Extinguishing Fire At Center - Careers Articles

I agree with the daycare owner. . .and its not a "country" thing.

If there is a fire. . you have smoke/fire alarm you want your kids LEFT ALONE . . while your teacher leaves? I would expect my kids to be escorted out 1st.

I wonder what is SOOO hard to understand about that

if there is a fire, you secure the kids first. How is that so hard to understand? I wonder why these people cherry pick these events. . .look. It worked out fine. That seems nice. Yet there is a reason we don't leave kids alone and why we don't leave them alone in a FIRE!

if there is smoke/fire alarm i am hopeful that the person would make sure my kid was safe before investigating

This living in a PC world where the PC are inept is silly. Who lets these PC make the rules in the first place?

Next thing you know they will want to ban sticks because with 2 sticks it is possible to make Fire. I do it that way all the time. It only takes 2 minutes.

Of course for the PC inept it would take a life time to master 2 sticks. First there would need to be an investigation

The teacher is a hero..... her boss is inept.

Did you watch that video I posted? This was a tiny little daycare. Folks act like the teacher was at a high school and had to go to the other side of the campus or something. She looked around the corner to the kitchen to see what was going on and then did "secure" the kids, got em outside and took a headcount and then went BACK in and put out whatever fire there was. From looking at the oven it only had some smoke damage so not much of a fire if any at all. Chicken nuggets aren't exacly loaded with gasoline or any other fire starter. Much ado about a hairdo. Folks act like there was a three alarm fire in the kitchen. Hardly the case especially since they had the time to get outside take a headcount and she still went back in and prevented damage.

None of this matters. It's all 100% irrelevant.

I'm gonna ask again: do you have any children?

Would she still be a hero if she'd escorted the children safely outside instead of fighting the fire?

First, there was no fire that she had to fight ok ?
Second, she did go back and escort the kids out of the building.

Who said no one knew how to use a fire extinguisher? The extinguisher is irrelevant to this woman's actions. You can get the kids out of danger (if there was one) and THEN use the fire extiguisher. Sounds like another one with a hero complex like George Zimmerman!

Already responded to but I'll reiterate, the worker did not know that!

That's why I wouldn't fire the worker, if I were her boss. I would severely reprimand her, however.

I used to have a child. Like all children he turned out to be an adult in a smaller package, but now he is bigger than me his dad..... and now he has a child my grandson, and once i was a child but am 61 now, and teachers used to leave the classroom at times in my past.

You PC like to pretend an unarmed teacher is good for protection of the children. LOL That's just plain silly non-sense. At least this teacher was armed with the right tool for once.

This is why the inept PC shouldn't be allowed to work. The PC are just stupid in the day time and are criminally ignorant at night.

Are we talking about the same story? From the article:

Seeing that chicken nuggets were burning in an oven ...
So is she still a hero?

She did. She found the fire, escorted the kids outside and then went back in and put it out.
