It doesn't surprise me, they wouldn't have much of a choice there otherwise.

Why not? They are the ancestors of this land, not you, not me.

Not only that, but the purpose of the reservation is so that they can preserve their traditions and language. If they live their whole life on the reservation, I have no problem if they only spoke Navajo, Apache, etc. We took their land, we at least owe them that, if they want it.

There are only about 7% more Hispanics in New Mexico than there are non-Hispanic whites. Unless we have been fooled all along most Hispanics are bi-lingual.

So, are you saying that most of them don't speak English?

And that has nothing to do with all those immigrants pouring over the borders who will not make any effort to ever learn English.

In fact it was the Mexicans who stole those Indians' lands --- and cut off their feet to control them.

Imagine your fate depending on the accuracy of a translator.

Social justice ruling for sure.
Very true.

It could be very significant in rape cases, cartel cases, drug trafficking cases. In Mexico for example the age of consent is 12 and rape crimes are not prosecuted like they are here. If an immigrant has not adapted to American culture in any way, how can they understand enough of anything to sit on a jury?

Oñate was Criollo, a Spaniard born in the New World, before the country of Mexico existed. If your revisionist history can actually source Mexicans cutting off feet of Amerindians to "control them", I am all ears. We've come from a topic about New Mexico courts providing a translator for jurors in any language, to your message that rapes with victims age 12 and over aren't prosecuted in Mexico.

Deaf and blind get interpreters because they have a disability, not understanding English is not a disability.

Native Americans who don't speak English (while very rare) get a pass from me. They were here first. Of everyone in this country, they are the only group who shouldn't be forced to learn English if they don't want to.
