Looks like a number of Republican-run states are doing poorly too:

If only it were as simply as red versus blue... Sorry, but running a successful government is more complicated than that.

Does it change the FACT that Nevada's economy is:

1) tourism;

2) gambling;

3) prostitution.

Sorry, in California there is a diversified economy.

Yeah, it's diversified if you don't use any energy (CA cap and trade)..... basket-weaving will likely make a come-back.

My butt. California is the 3rd largest oil producer and the 2nd largest natural gas producer. But I'm sure you won't let facts get in your way.

Not just taxes. California gas is like Korean kimchi. There's the summer variety and there's the winter variety. Each is a different formula and it's sold nowhere else. I think they consulted wine makers to come up with them since they're used to blending varietals. Perhaps they're charging corkage fees at the pumps. Since they're exclusive to California they cost more than the just plain ol' gas the rest of the country's commoners can purchase in other states.

The tax difference is only about $0.20 per gallon but the main reason is the special formulation for gasoline which is only good in this state as that means virtually no gas gets imported from outside the state. So, who lobbied long and hard to get this special gas formulation? The four oil companies which own or control 80% of the refining capacity in the state did because it means they get the whole California market to themselves and don't have to worry about out of state refineries shipping gas in and denting their profits.

It's just another example of big business corruption in the political process.
