Wouldn't it be helpful to be able to know how many felons live on your block? Or wouldn't that information be useful when you are looking to buy or rent a home?
I want the court to post where all the wife-beaters live...and all the child beaters. If anyone is convicted of domestic violence, I should know before I buy a house next to that loser.
I wouldn't want that, I also don't think there should be a sex offender registry, or if there has to be one, it surely shouldn't be public knowledge.
Once someone has served their sentence, they have paid the price society states they should pay for the crime they commit, by labeling them and essentially making them second class citizens, one simply exacerbates the problem of recidivism.

So the poor should not be able to know who are the most likely to offend in their neighborhood? The non-poor can afford to vote with their feet to distance themselves from crime; the poor cannot unless they know where the perps are.
