first off if you are just talking about the debt ceiling, that is only about our current debts, we can always service those, we just cant add new debt, which means our current bills would still be paid.
second, what others are talking about in a clean bill is, everything they want in the bill and nothing else. so again what is really a clean bill?
We are always racking up current bills though. Remember the little mission that the SEALs did today? That cost money.
Because the settlment is an attempt to get rid of a law that he and the democratic party worked hard for, was vetted by the surpreme court and he won not only election but relection on. There are some things you don't negotiate on.
he is a democrat..... in a democracy you "always" negotiate... more so in this case.. he is chief negrociator....

You negotiate before a bill becomes law, you negotiate by passing other bills after they become law via other bills. You don't negotiate by shutting the government down if we don't get what we want.
The answer came in a memo from White House Office of Management and Budget Director Sylvia Burwell providing guidance to federal agencies and departments. Aside from prefacing this Sept. 17 memo with a political talking point (Congress is to blame, not the administration), she instructs agency heads not to consider whether the cost of shutting down a government website is more expensive than keeping it running.
In other words, if the cost of shutting down an agency exceeds the cost of keeping it open, the admin still is ordering a shutdown. This could be true, for example, for agencies that collect fines, user fees, and other kinds of revenue.
The admin refuses any piecemeal measures to fund specific agencies. It refuses to accept any deal other than 100% of what it wants. Does it not appear that the admin really wants this shutdown??? It sure does.
It reminds me a lot of Democrats' current strategy regarding racism, wherein they blusteringly complain to be anti-racism, and then turn around and do everything possible to foment racial division and hostility. Rahm Emanuel and the Politics of Race in Chicago

And Republicans won the US House in 2010 in large measure on opposition to the law. By your logic, they too are doing exactly what they should. Where does that leave us?

Why won't democrats admit that "clean bill" really means "bill with everything WE want in it" just like 'compromise' to them is code for "do everything our way".
