But what if they don't want to live. Will we keep them alive against their wishes?

Having a family full of nurses and teachers, I can tell you what the nurses have seen. I am just going to talk about the elderly right now. 99% are ready to go because they feel they have lived a good life but their quality of life has gone downhill. They don't want to be bedridden with a diaper on or in a wheelchair. They don't want a life like that because that is no life to them. Yet here we let them live on and on with no dignity. There are no death panels because we keep them alive at all costs. We treat our pets better than this and it's shameful.

I'm a nurse and I've seen it all. Families with misplaced guilt keeping people alive at all costs, hooked up to every machine possible, and having procedure after procedure, surgery after surgery.
Sometimes the patients have a moment of lucidity, where they'd grab my hand and whisper "Miss, please let me die."
Naturally, we can't. It breaks my heart.

Mark Halperin: Obamacare Contains "Death Panels" | Video | RealClearPolitics

I can't wait until one of our resident LWNJ's mother or father will be subjected to a death panel decision to pull the plug and "take the pill". Will they still love obama the next morning?

Medicare is one big death panel
Insurance can be a death panel when they start denying coverage and the doctor says no pay no play.

In the future it is going to play out by who has productive potential and who is a drag on the system.
Those costing money without a means to recoup it, will be let to die comfortably.

I've heard that from my sister many times. She normally keeps her cool but did lose it with one family when the mom just wanted peace and made my sister promise to help her. I find it all so sad. If the elderly want to do everything they can do to live than that's fine but if they just want to go in peace then they should be allowed to as well. But we don't let them.

So conservative now want Uncle Sam to open the spigot and keep them alive forever and bankrupt the government and borrow from China to keep them alive...sounds like greedy geezers. But lets deny health care for anyone young and who cant afford it and lets get rid of the ACA...its socialism...

So now you are understanding the pieces on a chess board and where you stand.
Think you are not the pawn? Think again.

The King has spoken.

Assisted suicide is coming to Quebec, since about 90% of the populace is for it, but for now, we're not allowed to do anything except withhold food and water in dying patients. It sounds cruel, but it provides natural pain relief and feelings of euphoria.

Nutrition and Hydration (End of Life)

Hospice Signs of Dying

Nursing Center - Journal Article

Nutrition, eating, and serious illness

I can't tell you how many idiot aides I've caught, whispering "Those awful doctors and nurses want to torture you. Here, let me give you some water", undermining the process and prolonging the whole business of dying.
