Most fast food workers are entry level young adults.
Various by store an region.
At Chic Fil A, In n Out? Yes. I'd say everyone there is college age or so.
Mcdonalds? JITB? Seems mostly adult.
The rest are a 50/50 mixed bag I'd say.
Or.......you could move forward with the times. It's completely ridiculous to demand that we keep in the stone ages, just to protect jobs.
I used to work in the printing industry. Yup, jobs there getting eliminated all the time, because of the internet. So, seeing the writing on the wall, I learned to take my skills and apply them to digital media.

Adapt or get eliminated.
Of course we're far from the stone ages.
And it doesn't just protect jobs, it protects all of us and especially everyone who hates socialism.
Again, with an expanding population if we eliminate jobs (and jobs like these are counted in the millions, I'm sure) we're going to have NO choice but to pay more in taxes.
With how things are now, 4% of Americans are on Welfare. Imagine those numbers once you start replacing jobs in the millions.
Think, people. Capitalism and the free market wasn't designed to eliminate jobs, but the result of abusing it like it is now might be necessary socialism.
I believe the restaurants should use whatever technology they can justify to make a profit. I am union, but I've never believed in protecting unneeded jobs.
But I do not believe that human beings should be made to compete with technology to keep their jobs. Don't try to lower my wages under threat of using a machine to do my job. There is a minimum level that human being with souls should be treated.
I get a kick out of the mean spirited people reveling in other peoples troubles on here. Talk about karma!
Eloquently put and right on the money.
I'm long retired and watched for years as those without marketable skillsets were simply sloughed off like dead skin cells with the advent of technology and Free Trade (should have been called off shoreing agreements) deals that saw jobs being eliminated at the rate of 32 feet per second squared.
What most gloaters on here are forgetting is the legislation already exists to prevent these folks from starving and guess where that largesse comes from. Short sighted conservatives think a size twelve up the anal chute is the answer to everything without realizing cause and effect kicks in and ultimately costs them dearly.
Idiots all think that those without the skill or ambition to fend for themselves will starve and thus unburden systems already overloaded just haven't stopped to think of the consequences of such thinking. It will never work out that way no matter how hard they squint their beady little eyes and those whom you think you've cattle prodded into like minded thinking will simply come and get yours when their numbers are consistent with anarchy inducement.

Errr, the median age of a min wage worker is 28.
"Across the country, the median age of fast-food workers is over 28, and women -- who make up two-thirds of the industry -- are over 32, according to the BLS."...
Don't try to lower my wages under threat of using a machine to do my job.
Corollary Thought: Don't demand a ~50-100% increase in your wages for a low-skill position which could possibly be replaced in part or in whole by technology.
Who were the ones asking for a radical change to the status quo here, the employers or employees? I don't think McDonalds Corp or the Franchisees were seeking wage concessions. The employees (with much prodding by outside forces) are the ones who are instigating a re-evaluation of the labor vs. capital-investment calculus.
I guess people would appreciate all those people doing menial jobs if everyone earning under 15 dollars an hour decided to go on strike for a week.
And compared to what others make an hour, 15 dollars is not much.
I never believed in that 'that's all you're worth' attitude.
What do you think your worth? Should your employer pay YOU what you think YOU are worth? Most think they are "worth" whatever they can get. That is the point you folks can't get. Hey I think I'm "worth" more than I'm making too but I'm not gonna whine and cry and strike and moan about it. I will get it if I work hard. Nobody wants to do that nowdays. They want it handed to em. You have your hand out with our dollars is the problem.
