Big Government is alive and well in NYC. These idiots just want to control your life.
-----
A few weeks ago, as the New York City Council's health committee considered a ban on using electronic cigarettes in public, several fans of the battery-powered devices sat in the audience, demonstrating their operation. "I'm watching puffs of vapor go up in this room," said Councilman Peter Vallone. "It is confusing."

Last week Vallone and 42 of his colleagues demonstrated their confusion by voting to treat vaping like smoking, meaning e-cigarettes will be banned from bars, restaurants, and other indoor spaces open to the public, along with outdoor locations such as parks and beaches. Although that arbitrary edict may relieve the discomfort of politicians bewildered by a new technology, it probably will mean more smoking-related disease and death, the opposite of their avowed goal.

But the real problem with e-cigarettes, according to Farley and other supporters of the ban, is that they look too much like the real thing. "E-cigarettes threaten, in my opinion, to undermine enforcement of the Smoke-Free Air Act," City Council Speaker Christine Quinn said last week. "Because many of the e-cigarettes are designed to look like cigarettes and be used just like them, they can lead to confusion or confrontation."

Yes, the idiots on the NYC City Council are confused. But they love Big Government and love to control people's lives.

NYC. Most fascist city in the nation? It really is a shame what is happening there. I'm not sure how the people who live there can stand it.

It's not just NYC, these bans are being considered and implemented across the country in both blue and red states and cities.

Examples:

San Marcos, Texas has just joined a growing number of Central Texas cities to pass a smoking ordinance. Sharon Teal and Ray Santorelli, owners of Ahh Vapors, had hoped the ban would not extend to electronic cigarettes but it did.

Bullitt County, Kentucky - bans e-cigarettes

Tennessee - SENATE BILL 910 - treats e-cigarettes the same as tobacco products

Hate to say it Road King, but if I am to pay for the health care of these smokers, drinkers, gluttons, etc. I'm all in favor of the nanny state from now on. I'd prefer to have neither a welfare state or a nanny state, but if we have a welfare state, we're going to need a nanny state to go with it. Why fight it?

I don't smoke, drink, vape, drug, gorge, etc. So what do I care? However, I do care if my wallet is tapped to pay for the lung transplant, liver transplant, lap-band, etc of those who do.

Just goes to show that this was never and still is not about "health"..... Ban smoking in public because it isn't healthy for those around the smoker.... Smokers found a relatively healthy alternative for themselves that is harmless to others and so they ban that as well. Never was it solely about health. It's called social engineering people.... They said it themselves.... The reason they want them banned in public is because they look like a real cigarette. They could just as easily considered a law mandating that e-cigs be a bright orange color or something else that makes them distinguishable from real cigs, but no, they want to ban their use in public outright. It's all about control.

Personally, I hope people who live in NYC never pro-create and stay in NYC for the rest of their lives.... We can't risk the ideologies held by the people in that region spreading to the rest of the generally free country.

The problem with e-cigarettes is that they are making them attractive to kids to use them because they provide the same nicotine kick without the pesky smoking of a cigarette. I can understand the concern with that because who wants to encourage teens to start smoking?

Maybe when e-cigs actually live up to their lie that it's only water vapor, I'll have more sympathy.

Thanks for proving my point..... It's not about what they say it is. It's about behavioral engineering through legislation.

How about instead of making government bigger and inserting themselves in to every aspect of peoples personal lives, we encourage parents through education and information to encourage their kids to make good decisions?

He's not the only one. Reading these threads over the last few days, you'd think some of their favourite Christmas carols are Hark the Herald Angels B**ch and Oy To The World.
