"An Arkansas judge declared the state’s new voter identification law unconstitutional on Thursday since it stipulates that voters must meet an additional requirement before casting a ballot.

Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge Tim Fox called the law, which calls for voters to show photo identification cards, “void and unenforceable.”

Arkansas judge strikes down voter ID law as unconstitutional

Maybe instead of working so hard to disenfranchise voters that might vote for their opposition, the GOP could work on offering some ideas that would attract those voters to their side?

Vote more and vote often....

It is not those that place the votes that determine elections, it is those counting the votes, that do - Barack Obama

Voter ID laws are unconstitutional according to the 24th Amendment, because they require the purchase of a photo ID, or purchase of relevent government documentation required to receive a free photo ID. That constitutes a tax.

Tax

Quote:
tax

/tæks/ Show Spelled [taks] Show IPA
noun 1. a sum of money demanded by a government for its support or for specific facilities or services, levied upon incomes, property, sales, etc.

2. a burdensome charge, obligation, duty, or demand.

24th Amendment:

Quote:
Amendment XXIV

Section 1.

The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.
Voter ID laws are 100% unconstitutional. They are simply unacceptable.

The funny thing is, the 24th Amendment exists because southern states used poll taxes, literacy tests, and other Jim Crow laws to disenfranchise black voters.

Are we moving back in time, Republicans?

I will remember that next time i ever cross into this state, i wont show ID for anything when asked and if i get arrested i will say showing ID is void and unenforceable. How stupid is this judge? Really? We have many laws here in this country that require ID.

Irrelevant.

Voting is an unconditional citizen right. Voting can only be voided by a criminal who has been tried and convicted (due process).

The right of United States' citizens to vote is directly stated in four distinct Constitutional Amendments.

Driving, buying liquor, or going through airport security are not citizen rights. The difference is explicit.

The judge was talking about the Constitution of the State of Arkansas, not the Constitution of the United States.

There is not a single state that has required ID to vote that is not providing a free ID if you need it for voting purposes.

What I can't figure out is people say they can do the same thing as everyone else but when it's convenient for them they all of a sudden get stupid... or do they? Insisting they can't show a voter ID makes me think they are stupid all the time.

Correct as voter ID has already been ruled constitutional by SCOTUS.

Crawford v. Marion County Election Board - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In a 6-3 decision in 2008, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the photo ID requirement, finding it closely related to Indiana's legitimate state interest in preventing voter fraud, modernizing elections, and safeguarding voter confidence.

Good for Arkansas for upholding their own Constitution.
