That someone would pay this much for this mediocre team is astounding. A recent poll found Sterling to be the most disliked man in America. He doesn't need money at his age, he can't spend a fraction of it.
Well, let me preface my following comment with the fact that polls are total and utter BS.

Regarding the poll, the notion that Sterling is "the most hated man in America" would be hilarious, if not sad. Because it would reflect how out of whack out society is. It WOULD be understandable if there was some poll alongside it that showed maybe V.Stiviano being the most hated woman in the world...

Do you see what happened here? Sterling got paid 2 billion dollars for being a bigot lol.

This dude worked Black America into a foaming mouth frenzy....then as the angry mob were about to raise their hands in victory, in the blink of an eye, Sterling pocketed thousands of Black American Dreams.

He bought the team for 12 million dollars.......

Trust me, he is laughing. He is in happy tears.

Gotta love social justice....LOL
He is 81 court sideseats.

If that's not winning then please sign me up for that list of losers.
But if he wanted to sell the team, say he was just tired of owning it, it still would have sold for 2 billion.

The tone of this thread is that he bested the 'progressives'; that he showed his racist side and still came out a winner.

That's just not true. He didn't want to sell the team; he was forced to sell it.

But, then again, I'm one of those idiots who believe that money isn't the end all and be all of life...I don't like being forced to do something, and even if I profited from being forced, the money would seem sour to me.

The point is he's being forced to sell, he's not choosing to sell.

The forced sale isn't driving the value up any, if he'd have chosen to sell now - which he obviously didn't want to do - he would have made the same money.

Thus, not "winning". I have trouble shedding any tears for a racist that just made 17x his initial investment, however, so not really "losing" either.

Plus, he's 81. You can't take it with you, so I'm not sure why he wouldn't want to sell, regardless.

Why was Kobe Bryant fined $100,000 and not more for his remarks and the guy. Asking for an all black league was just ignored.

They made openly remarks while Sterling was secretly and illegally taped!

The tapes shouldn't even be admissible in a court of law since they are obtained in an illegal way so good luck to the NBA with their $ 2.5 million fine to Sterling!

Sterling has the money and means to stand up and that is great since most people won't have the means to fight back.
So, he planned all this so the team would sell for more? Unlikely.

I have owned several successful businesses, BTW.

Plus, you would have to show how being forced to sell actually increased the price of the asset.

I'll wait for bentlebee to give us the data backing up that possibility.

umm... he could have sold at any time if it was about the money.

You guys act like that 2 Billion will cure his cancer.

Billionaires don't care about another Billion or 2... they want power. Sterling was stripped of his team.

He will probably fight this sale because Billionaires HATE to be told what to do. This is why he was damn near in tears when his mistress defended Magic.

What makes you think he has lost power? He has lost a business...that's it.

He can open any business he wants an have power over anybody he hires if that's what he desires. $2 billion leaves plenty of options for any market he chooses to enter.

Don't worry...he is just fine.

Really?? That sounds like a generalization to me. Like "All Blacks and Mexicans make bad tenants"

The reported sale price of $2 billion is $1.45 billion more than the highest price ever paid for an NBA franchise. The previous record for an NBA franchise was $550 million, paid earlier this year for the Milwaukee Bucks.

1.45 billion MORE than the highest price tag on an NBA franchise EVER.

Now, surely the market has a big part to do with that. But, unless you can prove that the LA market would drive the price up as exponentially as it did.....it's still a reasonable guess just as the scandal driving up the price.

EDIT: And the Bucks sold for 550 million a few weeks ago....
