It was all a cover for what is a criminal act. Violating the civil rights of others.
You hold their is a right to timely performance by the government and that not getting it violates a civil right? Really? Why we could send the whole DMV system up for life.

The crime isn't long delays. The crimes are disclosing confidential taxpayer info to the FEC and FBI, and if there's a specific law making it a criminal offense to use the IRS to promote or hinder taxpayers based on their political or social views, that's another crime.
That there was an increase in applications was once well settled also. Until it was exposed as a lie.
There was an increase in applications filed by Tea Party organizations which the IRS determined needed further scrutiny. No one disputes that.
What does that really mean? An increase of applications being filed that was bogging down their process and caused them to raise that issue to be solved. Unfortunately, they went about solving it incorrectly.
However, theres no dispute there was an increase in volume of applications causing more work.
Whether or not the total increased is really irrelevant to the big picture.
Nope, once again you are incorrect. The only way a fired federal employee loses their pension is if they are convicted of crimes related to espionage or treason. If they are executed for these offenses, their survivors cannot collect survivor benefits. There is no other crime that will cause them to lose a pension they are otherwise eligible for and even if they are not eligible when they are fired due to age, they can wait and collect it once they are old enough even if they were still in prison.

Kindly cite the statutes involved. I particularly want to see the clause where it lists the class of violation and the potential punishment.

The IRS late Monday said the disks primarily contained "publicly available material that is easily and routinely accessible." But the IRS said it recently identified 33 tax returns on the disks—out of a total of 12,000 returns—that inadvertently included "some nonpublic information." The agency said the 33 groups represented a wide spectrum of organizations and most don't appear to have any connection to political activity.

So the IRS made an error and included some stuff it should not have. How many people should we send up the river for this?

The Washington Post does.
