Guess it may depend on the length of a lifetime.

Not sure most skills can remain relevant for a lifetime.

Everything changes even the "weather changes". Anyone with an once of common sense knows they must change with the times. Needing to update skills is normal or would you prefer for example we practice medicine the way they did in the dark ages?

Those other countries are in the same boat. Only a small part of any population has the aptitude for a "critical skill".

Yes indeed. We have thousands of engineers, doctors, scientists, etc., entering the United States via our southern border as we speak. Didn't we all see them being put on air planes and buses and being sent to a city near you?

Everything will cost twice as much and the balance of money value and worth will continue to be eroded as the nation full speed ahead enters inflation, and destruction.

Every Rich person knows it, is playing this market to live like kings for just a few more years and will ride the wave of stupid people who depend on the government for the next round of bailouts that will NEVER COME!

True enuff, although low-wage, low-skills "illegals" will always be particularly 'threatening' to anyone, anywhere, still unwilling to to get the edu-macation and training needed to remain 'competitive' in today's global economy.

A blue-collared American worker should never have to stop doing the jobs they like to accommodate and compete with illegal aliens who don't even have a right to be in this country. Are you kidding me? Not everyone is cut out for a white collared desk job. WTH is edu-macation? Trying the redneck demonizing tactic here? WTH does a global economy have to do with blue-collared jobs that can't be outsourced?

Then one adapts to the changes, that is how survivors survive and how others fall by the wayside. I know that when new technologies are introduced not everyone is going to be able to go into the field that will support those technologies, with any position there is a specific number of support personnel required. Some will have to train into a different field that needs good people, it is called adaptation.

I would add that gaining some basic skills in an industry can and often does lead a person from one technology type or career to another. And example of that would be an Electronics Technician, once a person has the training so that they understand the basics of how electronic components and circuits work and their application they can end up working in many different fields of production and manufacture such as Telecommunications, Aerospace, Communications or Power Production to name just a few. If one industry is slow in employment someone with good skills can, and often do, change industries and thus they gain more experience and knowledge and become higher in demand across several different industries. The same can be said for skills such as Welding, there are many forms of the craft using different technologies, become proficient in as many as you can and you will be assured of a long and successful career. There are many different choices for people to chose from, the thing is to find a skill that is demand in many different applications and industries, by doing so one can hedge their bet on staying in demand and thus employed.

Another suggestion would be to stop thinking within the box, a person can be an excellent artist but not be able to find enough work to keep food on the table, if that same person learns to use computer software to develop artwork required in advertising, entertainment or for business needs they become far more in demand and assure themselves of a successful future, and it does not stop that person from still continuing their passion to become a great painter. The opportunities are out there and all one has to do is find what they like to do and then researching what careers are out there that will allow them to be successful at doing what they enjoy. If someone does not know how to find those choices there are people out there that specialize in helping people find those choices.

I would add one last comment, it is never too late to learn a new profession, some people are late bloomers and are most successful later in life, the only limitations are those within ones own mind. We all select our own path in life and chose what we become, if you don't like where you are in life then find out what you need to do to change it, and do it.

Food for thought.

Not defending anything, it's simply the reality of things in today's economy, and lotsa luck to anyone claiming "entitlement" to any job, simply because of an accident of birth (aka, being a "native").

Although since it obviously annoys you, then we both understand that the low-end of the economy (aka, 'rednecks') has never placed much value on "education" anyway (aka, "liberal elites", or the black equivalent, "acting white"). And stubbornly defending those particular "values" is certainly their prerogative, but that kinda attitude has always come with a high price and the constant threat of 'competion', especially nowadays in a global market that increasingly depends on 'continuous learning'.
