The virus just can't cross open spaces by itself. Eliminate the carriers, people, you eliminate the problem.

Please. Those people don't deserve to die of ebola in a third world hell hole anymore than you or any of us here deserve to be born in America where ebola is never going to become an epidemic. It's just luck of the draw where you are born and no one is better than anyone else.

I shudder to think what will happen if there ever is a true outbreak of something if this is how people react over a few cases of ebola. All of which came about from someone who was taking care of a very sick person with direct contact with their bodily fluids.

Imagine the chaos, not to mention the threat to public health, should her petulance set a precedent for others. Ridiculous.
Precedent has already been set. This Ebola outbreak is almost a year old. For months now, hundreds and hundreds of healthcare workers have been volunteering in West Africa and then returning home. They have followed the WHO guidelines for self-monitoring. And so far, there has not been a single case of any of the returning volunteers infecting anyone at home. NOT ONE CASE. The WHO guidelines work. There is no need for any quarantines.

I agree with you. The concern is about taking precautions when other people who may have had similar contact comes to the US so we don't have that true outbreak. It's about being preventative.

Even if the odds were 99% she wasn't exposed, in the long run, that would mean 1 out of every 100 people were exposed. I'm not sure if the judge/that court would want to go down in the history books as the modern day Typhoid Mary, no matter how slim the odds. Plus throw in politics, we can only guess and your guess is as good as mine how a court would decide if it ever comes to that.
Since the hundreds and hundreds of volunteers that have been in and out of West Africa this year haven't infected anyone in their home countries, the WHO guidelines seem to be adequate. There isn't any need to quarantine anyone. And Ebola is not Typhoid.

I agree. And if it's agreed by the courts that she was exposed, the state of Maine has the right to quarantine her as the CDC guidelines outline.

Nancy Writebol contracted the disease without being involved in direct patient care and doesn't know how she contracted it.

They can't have it both ways. They want to say you can't prove anyone was even "exposed" to it unless they come down with it. That is ridiculous and wouldn't past muster before any judge. They are really arguing against self-monitoring for 21 days. Why worry?
No one is arguing against self-monitoring.

Nurse Hickox is self-monitoring, and taking her temperature twice a day.

She seems to have adopted an agenda now that she wants politicians, and the politics of fear, removed from the process of assessing a person's risk. Her argument is that only medical experts can assess a person's risk of having Ebola and of spreading Ebola. And since only medical experts can do so, the policies guiding such assessments should be designed and deployed by those medical experts. She's dug her heels in on this issue. I think she's dug her heels in too far, because I think the compromise offered by Maine was reasonable. But I understand her reasons for what she's doing.

Mainly a political move by Mr. Hussein in order to fire up the AA base.

Mr. Hussein is putting the USA at risk in order to impress and fire-up AAs...so they will get out and pull the D-lever.
