Let's put all the facts out there. The reason the school reacted was because the student titled the photo "Homecoming" and posted it just hours after the school shooting in Washington.
Yep. They were looking for their 15 minutes of fame and they got it.
They got the reaction they were looking for, also.
Now they have to deal with their decision. Too bad! So sad!

What happens when the school ignores the concerns and complaints it received and the school then gets shot up?
Thats like suggesting a photo of them shooting guns at a gun range and then suggest they should be suspended for shooting guns, clearly that would have been far more threatning as real guns are far more deadly than toys, right?

A school here tried something similar. They quickly backtracked when the lawyers came into it. You're right. It's on private property and therefore the school should have no say whatsoever. I can't imagine such an action by the school would hold up in court.
