Assuming:

- The person has no weapons.

- Five or six of you friends are with you.

I'd say, if you can speak, then you can breath.

Also, those who know these things say he wasn't being choked -- only restrained. He died because of a medical condition -- yes, aggravated by the assault.

Since the 5 or 6 friends could become witnesses I would stop choking.

Choking would prevent repeatedly saying, 'I can't breathe'.

Thus the 'tap out'.

Would friends let a drunk drive.. you bet!

Would friends stop a guy from using illegal drugs? Nope!

Would being arrested 30 times serve as a deterent to a thirty first arrest? Nah!

Every year hunters with cardiac disease die in the woods because they engaged in an activity with a pre-existing medical condition that put them in danger.

As a former cop I'd ease the pressure somewhat but not let go entirely until he was totally restrained/handcuffed.

The officer did not administer a carotid choke hold which is what it seems most assume. That was clear from the video.

This. I would know they could breathe. But I might not realize they were simultaneously dying of multiple underlying medical conditions.

It depends on what my objective was. If I wanted to choke the man to death I would be satisfied I was accomplishing my goals. If I were trying to restrain the man I would let up on the hold.

No, you're making a judgment about the cops actions based on FALSE reporting. I will call you on your errors.
