I saw that story too. It's disgusting how much money our government wastes, but when they are blowing $4 trillion a year, no one cares. And if you do object to wasteful federal spending and an out of control deficit, you are flamed as a kook TEA party nut.

Every year or so the GAO sends the president a waste in government spending report. We could cut hundreds of billions in wasted spending if the congress only acted on those reports. But they don't, they just demand more, more, and more money from us instead.

Wrong analogy. The guy next door is spending his own money, on his own food.

The government demands your money, claiming it's your duty as good citizens to fund government programs for the greater good. Then they borrow more money in your name and mine, which we will be forced to repay, and they blow it all on their own version of an extravagant dinner, with our money, not their own. And much of the time they use our money to buy and sell favors to their friends and political and corporate cronies.

All empires in history have fallen. Greed and corruption within their own government was a major contributor.
In the grand scheme of things the US is but the next one in line for the history books as becoming the next fallen empire.

The purpose of the Army is to defend the US. We have to pay people to do this. But that doesn't mean it the Army's responsibility to employ people in Ohio.

This is the addiction to government programs of all types that produces earmarks and fraud. Harry Reid defends earmarks as part of this job. In other words he thinks Senators are supposed to take money from taxpayers throughout the country and direct that spending to their states.

Harry Reid's job is to make sure Las Vegas continues to get taxpayer dollars to pay for it's tourism advertising.

Agency's got their budgets cut but Harry got to keep his casino kickback money.

We never learn from history, do we? The forefathers set up the template (the US Constitution) on how a government is supposed to function, and we screw that up!

John Cornyn and Ted Cruz have sought/obtained/supported obscene amounts of "pork spending" in the State of Texas. Each year, Texas ranks among the top 3 to 5 states in the amount of government waste. Many so-called Tea Party'rs like Ted Cruz are all for eliminating government spending and waste...so long as it is outside their state. Inside their state, they want as much taxpayer money as they can get.

This isn't a one party issue. Each party is equally guilty. If one party is more guilty than the other, it tends to be the party that is in control at any given time (Democrat or Republican). Control of Congress is as much about controlling who gets the most "pork" as anything else.

As another poster pointed it is the party in charge and it sure helps Ohio that Boner is speaker. Around Mansfield there is a AFB that has cargo planes that no one is using that should be shuttered. Of course, with Ohio having the speaker chair the AFB survives after being on the cut list. Ohio delegation is conservative when dealing with the rest of the country and closet liberals when it comes to Ohio.
