That's usually the conservative answer though, to similar situations: "Move somewhere where there are better jobs," or "Get some skills!"
Unions only represent about 10% of the total workforce, so the idea that someone can't find a job without being "forced" to join a union is pretty laughable.
I'm not arguing that....you partner is....so you agree that no skills, it's better to be in a union so you don't/cannot get fired...
Each employee should have the choice to join or not join (which includes any form of dues or fees).
If you are forced to join or pay, you have no choice. Some people prefer not allowing choice.
So that employee needs to go to Mgt. and request a different job title. They need to inform Mgt. that they do not want to follow the same earning's or benefits that their union negotiate's. If they are lucky they may get promoted, my guess is they will be told that their job title will make whatever the contract calls for.
So what's so bad and wrong about paying your fair share to the union as long as it is working in bringing you higher pay and better benefits than an equivalent non union job? Or would you feel much happier quitting the union job, so you can work for less in a non unionized workplace?
You only assume that it benefits everyone.
I'd rather work in a non-union workplace so that I can get ahead of the lazy workers who only get their promotions and keep their jobs because the union has too much leverage over the employer.
I go by the mantra, "Least valuable, first fired" as opposed to the union "Last hired, first fired."

It's simple, for the most part, unions only benefit those who aren't able to get ahead on their own.
There are plenty of workers who only maintain their jobs because other workers have been there for a shorter period of time.
Straw man alert. Walkerphobes would go to hell, if necessary, to find that elusive straw man. LOL.
Facts are pretty tough for you to handle. Minnesota has the best economy of any state in the Midwest and the lowest unemployment rate when you account for its population.
Notice I used the huffpo.....so you cannot complain about that site being repub....LOL...
