Dangerous....are you kidding me....they wouldn't be cooking...baking?????
everyone looks for excuses not to do things, instead of looking for the positive in doing something constructive and positive.....
Labored????? I worked part time....that isn't laboring....and still went to school, worked part time in the summer and was on the swim team....labor my foot.

Statistically, yes, kitchens are very dangerous.
And as another poster noted, there are all sorts of regulations regarding how teens may be employed, in what capacities and during which hours.
Bottom line is that parents simply have different expectations for their kids now and having them compete with illegals for jobs is not high on the list.

Good points.
I would also add that living in the suburbs makes schedules even more difficult. Public transportation is often iffy and in many households parents are both working and not available to ferry non-driving teens back and forth to jobs at odd hours.

How can they be "fantastic" parents and raise such spoiled, entitled kids?

yeah, keep on looking for excuses.....
pathetic....really....pathetic......I walked to work....only a mile, however, I walked....big deal, I'm still alive, and I worked in a restaurant....Good God, I swear, America has grown softer then I thought....
oh, and btw, my son, put himself thru college, he refused to take money from either me or his father....he worked 3 jobs....it was a community college...but still
where there is a will there is a way....even today, while I will always give he and his wife money, it is difficult for them to take it...very difficult....

I'm not saying the kids shouldn't have some part-time work, but I'm saying the manager that want to hire kids for part-time work are a lot more scarce than you think. Most often, those employers want adults to work part-time, and there are a lot of adults--including college graduates and retirees--who will take them, not just illegals.

I believe you, however, at least the kids should try and not give up at the first rejection....our country should gear more encouragement towards accepting kids for work. I can't even get a kid to mow my lawn, I'm not kidding (no pun on words intended) and I'm not the first person to say this.

I participated in my parents home, and my kids participated in our home.
I see nothing wrong with kids working and helping and contributing to the family , it is an important aspect of family and community life.
I worked out side the home for spare money and so did my kids , its normal life.
Kids tht had every thing handed to them became selfish. entitled .
Selfish people do not want to be bothered, and dwell in their own little world .and if they have kids, teach them selfishnes as well.
What I see is a lot more selfish people. .Immorality is the apex of defiance and selfishness.

corruption is a slow erosion of a system...like opening a can of worms, you break these little laws, and they grow, bigger and spread like a disease...until pretty soon everyone is breaking laws....
Take note as to how many people speed and never get caught, why,? Because police don't have time to sit in traffic stops, they're way to busy b/c of cut backs.
and I'm talking 80 MPH....everyone feels entitled. kids don't want to work....unless they get a whole lot of money for doing so....adults refuse to get their hands dirty, unless they've lost their jobs and are hungry.
I knew a man who used to say, you clean up crime and the rest cleans itself up, but the only way to do that is to obey laws.....
I mean, it's all turned around today, the criminal is cheered on...
Just in our area, a bunch of girls, mind you girls, killed another girl????? People are growing more corrupt and more sick...everytime you turn around another child sex molester is caught....with child porn???????
when does it end...when you get tough on crime....and that is by also being a lot tougher on kids....
they shouldn't be running all around the stores, or in doctors offices....I heard a toddler in a cart seat tell his dad, over and over, " F you dad" hmmmm, wonder where he got that from. There are so many people who shouldn't even be parents today who are criminals, and when do women fight fist fights like men?
When to kids run up to a lone person on the streets and punch them in the head, for kicks...???????
yeah, go easy on your kids, don't expect them to work or help around the house, hell, it might kill them?
or even worse, they'd get less time on their cell's.
Pathetic society we live in....
