His Birthday, February 8th, shouldn't it be a federal holiday?

You personally think they are heroes. I call those individuals traitors and enemies. I look at the Confederate cause as a horrible cause. The Confederate states wanted so bad to secede because they believed that the government would abolish slavery all over the USA. The elite slave owners were scared and desperate. This is why I have no respect for the Confederate cause and why I'm glad they lost. My ancestors were slaves in the Deep South. The Confederate cause had a large investment in slavery. Said persons desired to keep other people in bondage for the sake of getting rich. They are not heroes to me and my ancestors benefited from the Confederates losing the war. In my assessment, anyone would supports the Confederacy supports their cause, a large part of it was to keep slavery.

Well, I could sum it up this way. It would be good to celebrate someone who helped the USA win the Civil War. However, it would be even better to celebrate the day the USA was made whole again.

No one wants to "change what happened in the past." But you don't see government property named after Benedict Arnold, do you? It's the same thing.

So here's a question to CSD610 and others of the opinion that the Confederate flag should have remained on state government property. For the sake of discussion, let's say that during the Civil War the Union added to the American flag an anti-South symbol. Then, the war ended, but the federal government decided to leave that symbol on the American flag. And each time we added another state, even though the Civil War was long over, the federal government decided to leave the anti-South symbol on the American flag. Perhaps something like this:

Y'all would have no problem having that flying over government buildings down South? The symbolism wouldn't bother you? You'd just say you can't magically change what happened in the past?

And of a General that fought for the USA, not the CSA.
