No one wants to "change what happened in the past." But you don't see government property named after Benedict Arnold, do you? It's the same thing.
Actually you do. His birthplace was Connecticut and not only is there a memorial site, there is a street named after him. Benedict Arnold Birthplace
And there is a naval monument in Bulington that highlights his role when he commanded the naval repeal of the British sailing down from.Canada on lake Champlain.
well there are still americans, what now we turn our backs on american, i guess you want to turn your back on all the americans in the iraq wars because they lost too.
even though you hate southern people, they are still americans
Yeah...I guess you can compare terrorism and slavery. Good thought.

Misplaced idolization. Supporting your heros 'down there', supports slavery. You wouldn't last 2 minutes up North and that includes us white folks.

Resorting to this shows you lost the debate. 411...the wars over.
Really? Standing up and fighting for what one believes is shameful? Using that logic then the other side is just as shameful and anyone involved in any sort of war is just as shameful.
Shameful, seeing graves of 14 and 15 yr olds who fought this war.
Yes, we all know that Tennessee was a part of the Confederacy. Does that mean we have to honor Confederate soldiers?
Why shouldn't we? Soliders on both sides were pawns in this war. The fact is, there were instances of family members fighting on opposing sides. Yes they should absolutely be honored, as should those who fought and died for the Union Army.
Many aspects of this time aren't proud, but that doesn't mean we should attempt to erase it.
I agree. Because if we erase it, then how will we learn from history so as to not repeat the same mistakes. Now I'm not saying to dwell on the past, and guilt trip us for the sins of some long dead folks like the leftists like to pull, but acknowledge it, and quite frankly embrace it. Like it or not, the Civil War is just another historical event that helped shape this country.

Absolutely! Which is why they do deserve the honor and respect as much as those who fought on the side of the Union.

Embracing one thing, this war is still fought by many in the deep south. Morgan Freeman did a documentary on the mentality present today. Its disturbing.

Well, when this country was re-unified those who fought on the Confederate side dead or alive again became Americans did they not? Those soldiers deserve as much recognition as those who fought on the Union side of the war. And considering there were instances that families were torn apart over this war sometimes pitted brother against brother.... Sorry, but we need to cut the bulls**** of erasing parts of our history that we don't like in the name of PC. You say the war is still fought by many in the deep south, and yet progressives seem to also be fighting that same war, and trying to guilt trip us for the sins of some long dead folks.

I don't need a history lesson.
Progessives? Surely you jest. High school children who can't attend their prom bc they're black in this day and time. Let the war be offer.
