Because of folks stating these are driven by the right, here is a city council and news outlet that are more left slanting that decided to take in this effort for their constituents.
"Harris, 34, who along with his wife, Alena Allen, teaches at the University of Memphis School of Law, said every day he has had to pass Confederate Park, which is right next to the building where they work.
A native Memphian, he said he did not think much about the issue of parks honoring the Confederacy when he was a kid. But now he worries about his own children.
"My son comes to my office all the time. At some time, he'll come to realize there was a War Between the States and one side was the Confederacy and it didn't like a lot of things about him," said Harris."
Didn't bother him but subsequent generations will be affected?
Oh yeah, time always opens wounds, never heals.
Let's rename things and wipe the history books clean from last week going back.
Healing will be instant with memories and history erased.
It is people's hearts and minds that will do that , nothing else.
I think that, if we really put some effort into it, we can totally erase the Civil War from the history books. Yes, Tennessee was part of the Confederacy. I'm sorry if that stings a bit.

It didn't bother the man as a child because he didn't know better. It was the same with me. I moved to Georgia as a child during the 90s. I knew nothing about the state flag during that time. We covered the Civll War in school, but I didn't pay attention. It started bothering me as a teenager the more I learned and paid attention.
It's the classic case of "ignorance is bliss". It was blissful to not think of these things when you're a kid because you don't know better. When you start learning about history, and about what was done to people, it brings alot of unhappiness with it. Now, one could say "well, being ignorant makes one happy". All it shows is that the world can be a hard, cold place.
The reason time doesn't heal wounds because with time, many people hold on to the same mentality and way of clinging to a lost cause like Confederate secession.

Stalin lives in their hearts. They should call them all Stalin Park.
